1. لم تكن مثلُ نعمة اللَّه في العبْ

    باس تنجو من آفة التكديرِ

    The grace of God was never like the comfort

    That saves from the affliction of turbulence

  2. كدّر الدهرُ صفوها بعبيد ال

    لَه وجهِ الحمار والخنزير

    Time has disturbed its serenity with slaves

    With the face of a donkey and a pig

  3. غير أنا نرجو لراحتنا من

    هُ سريعاً لطف اللطيف الخبير

    But I hope for our comfort soon

    From Him the kindness of the All-knowing, All-gentle

  4. يسرح الطرف من أخيه ومنهُ

    بين قرد وبين بدر منير

    The eye roams from one brother to another

    Between a monkey and a bright full moon

  5. لك وجه كأنه حين يبدو

    مستعارٌ من منكر ونكير

    You have a face that when it appears

    Looks borrowed from Munkar and Nakir
