وذِكرُكَ في الشعرِ مثلُ السنا

دِ والخرمِ والخزم أو كالمحالِ

Your mention in poetry is like the toothpick, the date, and the raisin

Or like bolstering poetry, empowering it

وإيطاءِ شعرٍ وإكفائهِ

وإقوائهِ دون ذِكرِ الرُّذالِ

Without mentioning vulgarity

There is no fault in poetry with a fault of its own

وما عِيبَ شعرٌ بعيبٍ له

كأن يُبتَلى برجال السّفالِ

As if it is afflicted by vulgar men

Invective is made available to the satirist

يُتاحُ الهجاءُ لهاجي الهِجا

ء داءٌ عُضال لداءٍ عُضالِ
