مدحتُكُم طمعاً فيما أؤمِّلُهُ

فلم أنل غيرَ حظِّ الإثمِ والوصَبِ

I praised you out of greed for what I hoped for

Yet I gained nothing but sin and disgrace

إن لم تكن صلةٌ منكم لذي أدبٍ

فأجرة الخط أو كفارةُ الكذبِ

If you have no bond with the well-mannered

Then penance for lies or payment for writing
