قينة عند خالد

تترك الروح تارزَهْ

قُبْحُها سُتْرة لها

فهي للشَرب بارزه

Its ugliness a veil over it

As it overtly shows itself to be sipped

حين لا يغمِزونها

بل هي الدهرَ غامِزه

When none wink at it

Rather it winks at time

ليس للقوم نحوَها

نظرةٌ غيرُ طانزه

The people have no gaze towards it

Except a mocking stare

كفُّها طولَ دهرها

قفلُ أيرٍ محاجِزه

Its palm throughout its time

The lock of a barrier

فهي تحتال للزنا

ءِ واحتيال الجَرابزه

So it schemes for adultery

And the tricks of crafty men

وتراها من الوِدا

ق على العود راهِزه

You see it among companions

Leaning on the lute stationed

ذاتُ صوت كأنهُ

صوت بعض الجلاوزه

With a voice like that

Of some of the singing girls

إن عيناً تغيب عن

ها وعنه لفَائزه

If an eye is absent from it

And from him, it triumphs

قلت لما ترنمت

سكتةٌ منك جائزه

I said, when you fell silent

A silence from you is virtuous

قاتل اللَه بردها

والحتوفُ المناجزه

May God curse its coldness
