1. أقاسمُ يا من لم يزلْ ذا نقيبةٍ

    بجدٍّ وحدٍّ منه غير كليلِ

    I share, O you who has never ceased to be of nobility

    With seriousness and devotion unlike any other

  2. أتيتك مشتطّاً عليك مثقِّلاً

    لأنك حمَّالٌ لكلّ ثقيلِ

    I came to you, determined, weighed down

    For you carry every burden

  3. ولي حاجةٌ في أن تُنيل وأن ترى

    مكاني بلا منٍّ مكان مَنيلِ

    And I need you to grant me favor and to see

    My place without condescension, a place of heights

  4. وفي أن يكونَ النَّيلُ نيلاً معجَّلاً

    كثيراً تراه لي أقل قليل

    And for the favor granted to be swift

    Often you see it's too small for me

  5. وأن تتلقاني مُجلّاً مُصانِعاً

    كما صانعَ الجانِي وليَّ قتيلِ

    And to meet me trying my best

    As one who helps the sinner and frees the killed

  6. وأن تتولّاني إذا اعتلَّ مذهبي

    برفق طبيب مُحْسِنٍ بعليلِ

    And to take care of me if my path goes astray

    With the gentleness of a caring doctor to the sick

  7. وفي أنْ إذا أطرقتُ إطراقَ خادمٍ

    طفِقتَ تراعيني بعينِ خليلِ

    And so when I bow my head like a servant

    You watch over me with the eye of an intimate friend

  8. وفي أن تمدّ الظلَّ لي وتديمَه

    فما ظِلُّ خيرٍ زائلٍ بظليلِ

    And extend shade for me and keep it

    For no shade of goodness is fleeting

  9. وفي هذه كلُّ اشتطاطِ وإنها

    لتعظُمُ إلا عندَ كلّ جليل

    And in this is the sum of my determination though

    It is so great except to each noble one

  10. وفي أنني قدرتُ فيك احتمالها

    شفيعٌ وجيهٌ عند كلّ نبيل

    And that I deemed you able to bear it

    An influential intercessor with every noble one

  11. وما برحتْ نفسي تنقّي ثمارَها

    وتعطيكُها إعطاءَ غيرِ بخيل

    And my soul did not stop purifying its fruits

    And giving them to you, not in miserly fashion

  12. وتحتقرُ الحظَّ الجزيلَ تقيسُه

    بقدْرِك يا وهّابَ كلّ جزيل

    And deems the ample share insignificant, measuring it

    By your worth, O granter of all things plentiful

  13. ألم ترَ أنّي إذْ تضاءلَ سائلٌ

    تضاؤلَ مقموعِ الرجاءِ ذليل

    Did you not see that when a petitioner became small

    The dashed hopes of the disgraced became small

  14. سموْتُ بنفسٍ لم تضاءلْ مخافةً

    لتفعلَ بي أفعالَ غيرِ ضئيل

    I prided myself on a soul that did not cower in fear

    That you would treat me with acts that are not base

  15. وطال مقالي في احتكامي وربّما

    رأيتُ طويلَ القولِ غيرَ طويلِ

    My speech grew long in my appeal and maybe

    You saw the long speech as not lengthy

  16. ومالي عديلٌ في اشتراطي شرائطي

    وإنك لَلغادي بغيرِ عديلِ

    And I have no peer in stipulating my conditions

    Yet you are the loving one without a peer

  17. فإن يكُ من آبائك الخيرُ سنةً

    فمثلك من لم يعدُها لسبيلِ

    If goodness was a tradition of your fathers

    Then one like you would not forsake it

  18. وإلا فكنْ لي أوَّلاً في استنانِها

    فما زلتَ مهدِيّاً بغيرِ دليل

    Otherwise be the first for me to enact it

    For you have always guided without proof

  19. رفعْتُك فوق الفاعلين بسومِها

    فلا ترضَ مما دونها ببديلِ

    I exalted you above all other doers of it

    So do not accept what is less that, as substitute

  20. لكيما يقولُ اللَّه والحقُّ والهوى

    جميلٌ تقصّى فعلَ كلّ جميلِ

    So that God, truth and passion may say

    Beautiful is the one who performed every beautiful deed

  21. وما أنا فيما رمْتُه بمفنَّدٍ

    وما أنا فيما قلْتُه بمُحيلِ

    And I am not mistaken in what I sought

    Nor am I impossible in what I have said

  22. وكيف اقتصادِي في سؤاليكَ بعدما

    أفضتَ من الخيراتِ كلَّ سبيلِ

    And how can I be sparing in asking you after

    You opened every path of goodness
