    When his face met mine,

Not a raincloud pouring down a valley's echo,

I see no mercy in it, though plentifully watered,

    Or agreeable, though beautifully featured.

Your face, Ja'far, in its ugliness

    Is better hidden than bareness.

    As though nightfall descends

    When it emerges at dawn.

    You've weaved it from a stewpot's grime.

I lied - your face in its light

Is the full moon's rival reversing.

The beauty you've been granted -

You asked for on the Night of Ordainment.

Iblis takes refuge in it when

He aims to seduce the virgin nape.

How many free women has it tried to pervert!

But they gave no heed, lost in thought.

Had it not plunged them deep in their hearts,

It would have sought more wrong and harm.

You've become my amusement and mockery,

    The blind poet's pasture.

    Expect two rewards owed you

Tomorrow from God at the Gathering -

Reward for thanking the Lord of Creation,

    Though excused for unbelief,

Since He Who Is called most high

Repays not with thanks what's due Him,

And the King Who shaped you

Spared you no disfigurement from His store.

Your second reward for a deficiency

Whose Master is the wronged, the paid.

In Abul Fadl is a bane

    In my fountainhead of verse,

With no remedy for its ferment

    But a goblet's flowing tears -

    Tears from each wide-eyed gazelle,

    All grace and wrist upraised.

If you could see the filth on four feet

    Facing a mounted, tethered stallion,

    Their rods boring them deeply,

    Spreading the anus' foulness wide,

    Sneezes erupting, violent lusts

Like the viscera of beasts of prey,

    As they enjoy the pounding,

Their breaths mounting in their chests -

I swear by the Oath-Maker in His verse,

By the even and odd verses,

I will leave the hybrids rutting

To last until the end of days.
