God knows who oppresses people, yet pretends otherwise
You are more deserving and fitting of power than he
The gourd once had a horn, but now
Its horn pales next to yours
He whose crown is like yours
Let his court rival Kisra's
Long live you, son of Hurayth
For through you glory is made sublime
Had you eased your grip on power you'd not have shone so bright
Yet you are weighty, O mound of Muhriyy!
You cast off all shame
And show a face like your mother Sakra's
The worst water is what he squeezed in the worst of loins
The worst stallion he bred in the worst of pastures
He mingled with riffraff in his father's backbone
So riffraff flowed from him through every channel
He claims poetry though he is dull and ignorant
Draped in borrowed garb and affectation
Blemished in nature, puffed up
With a force not even al-Shawashari could capture
