1. قولا لطوطٍ أبي عليٍّ

    بصريِّنا الشاعر المنجِّمْ

    Tell Abu Ali's parrot,

    Our astrologer poet,

  2. المنذر المُضحكِ المُغنِّي

    الكاتب الحاسب المعلِّمْ

    Entertainer, singer,

    Writer, mathematician, teacher,

  3. الفيلسوفِ العظيمِ شأنا

    العائفِ القائف المُعزِّمْ

    The great philosopher,

    Rambler, wanderer, determined,

  4. الماهِنِ الكاهِنٍ المُعادي

    في نصرِ إبليسَ كلَّ مسلمْ

    Soothsayer, priest, opponent,

    Supporting Iblis against all Muslims,

  5. الأعور المُعور الملاقي

    بمؤخر السوء كلَّ مقدمْ

    The one-eyed, blind, meeting

    Evil's backside at every fore,

  6. يا وجه طوطٍ رأى قُمُدَّاً

    فسال طولاً وقال قحِّمْ

    O parrot face that saw a cloud

    So urinated lengthwise and said "burst!"

  7. وجهٌ زكا قُبحُه برأسٍ

    قَمْقَمَ من قحفه المُقَمقمْ

    A face purer than a head

    Crunching from its cracked skull,

  8. ما إن بدا في النديِّ يوماً

    إلا اشتهتْه يدا مُقرقِمْ

    No sooner did it appear one day

    Than a destroying hand desired it,

  9. وقال قومٌ وما تعدَّوا

    كأنه رأسُ شِيقبرقمْ

    And some said, more than a few,

    As if it were Sheeqbarqum's head,

  10. رأسُ ابن عرسٍ ووجهُ نمسٍ

    فاصفع بشر النعال والْطِمْ

    Ibn 'Arus' head and Numus' face

    So slap the soles and stomp!

  11. يا ابن الزيوف التي أراها

    طارت فصيدتْ بكَفِّ قِرْطِمْ

    O son of crickets I saw

    Flying, caught in a palm,

  12. ولم تزل قبل ذاك وقْفاً

    للرجل في بيت كلِّ مجرمْ

    Still standing before that for the man

    In every criminal's house,

  13. بخراءُ ذفراءُ ذاتُ قبحٍ

    محلَّلٌ نيكُها محرّمْ

    Dung beetle, dung frequenter, ugly one

    Whose filth is prohibited,

  14. تعرضُ عرضَ الطعام جهراً

    في كل وقت على مسلِّمْ

    Who offers food in public

    At all times to Muslims,

  15. وكلهمْ قائلٌ هنيئاً

    لا يرتضى وطأها بمنسمِ

    And all say "Congratulations!"

    None would accept mounting her with intent,

  16. إن كنتَ كلباً أراك حربي

    حينُك فاركب هواك واعزمْ

    If you're a dog I see you noble

    When you ride your passion and commit,

  17. وأسرِجِ المركبَ المعرَّى

    قبلَ ورودِ الوغى وألجِمْ

    And saddle the honored ship

    Before the coming of calamity and persist,

  18. واكتب على عرضكَ المُلقَّى

    قواصد النبل ربِّ سلِّمْ

    And write upon your outstretched self

    The purposes of nobility, Lord of Peace,

  19. فليس سهمي بسهمِ رامٍ

    لكن سهمي شهابُ مُضرِمْ

    For my arrow is no stray arrow

    Rather my arrow is a kindling flame,

  20. افتح بسوء الثناءِ واختم

    في ابن أبي قرَّةَ المُزَمزِمْ

    Begin with the ill praise and end

    In Ibn Abi Qura's Zamzam.
