أيها السيد الذي فاق في الجو

دِ وتمَّ الحجا له والوسامُ

O Lord who excelled in generosity

And fulfilled the pilgrimage and badge for him

وأطاعتْ له الروايةُ والصَّنْ

عةُ وانقاد كيف شاء الكلامُ

And the narration and craft obeyed him

And the speech submitted to him as he willed

لا تَخَلْ أوجَبَ الحقوق على المر

ء حقوقاً قضى بها الحُكَّامُ

Do not neglect the rights that are due upon a man

Rights decreed by rulers

إنما أوجبُ الحقوقِ على المر

ء حقوقٌ قضى بهنّ الذِّمامُ

But the rights due upon a man

Are rights decreed by the honorable

وذِمامي كما علمتَ وقدْ قدْ

دَمْتُ وعداً في عقده استحكامُ

And my honorable, as you know, I have

Fulfilled a promise in his unbreakable covenant

وإذا ما الذِّمام أكَّده الوع

دُ فحُقَّ الحِباء والإكرامُ

And when the honorable affirms a promise

Then affection and honor are deserved

كنتَ أنعمت لي بأشياءَ إن تمْ

مَتْ ففيها لحاسدي إرغامُ

You have bestowed me with things, and if they are completed

Then therein is subjugation of my enviers

وأراها تأخَّرتْ بالتناسي

واستمرَّتْ من دونها الأيامُ

And I see they are delayed by forgetfulness

And without them days have continued

وتقاضيتُ بالسكوتِ إلى أنْ

لامني في لُزومه اللُّوَّامُ

And I sought silence until

The blamers blamed me for adhering to it

فتوَّق الإنعامَ إلّا مع الأن

عام أوْ لا فإنه استذمامُ

So bestow favor except with favor

Otherwise it is humiliation

وحقيقٌ تركُ السكوت إذا طا

ل فلم ينتبه به النُّوَّامُ

And it is true to break silence when

The negligent does not awaken with it

حان أن تضلّ العِدات عن النج

حِ وأن تُطلِع الجنا الأكمامُ

It is time the instruments stray from success

And the sleeves reveal the hidden

فاذكُرِ الوعدَ فهْو كالعهد والإخ

لافُ كالنَّكْثِ وهو بسْلٌ حرامُ

So remember the promise for it is like a covenant

And violating it is like betrayal which is forbidden

ودعِ المطل راشداً فهْو مَيْدا

نٌ يروضُ النفوسَ فيه اللِّئامُ

And leave procrastination, for it is a field

In which the ignoble train the souls

نَعَمُ الحُرِّ خلفها نِعَمٌ من

ه فُرادَى وأخرياتٌ تؤامُ

The free man’s gifts are bounties

Individually and some doubly

ما تمامُ الإنعام قولاً سوى الإن

عامِ فعلاً ولِلأمور تمامُ

The perfection of favor is not words

But favor in action, and all things have perfection

قد بذلتُ التذكير فابذلْ ليَ التن

كيرَ إنّ الزمان فيه عُرامُ

I have given reminder, so give me

Admonition, for time has turbulences

واغرَمِ المال واغنَمِ الحمد واعلم

أنَّ ذا المجدِ غارمٌ غنَّامُ

Take wealth and gain praise, and know

That the glorious one is losing yet winning

ومتى لم تكن سجيتُك الغُر

م إذا خيف من زمانٍ غَرامُ

And if your nature is not to lose

When loss is feared in a woeful time

زاحت العِلَّتان عنك فلا بُخ

لٌ يعوق الندى ولا إعدامُ

The two excuses are removed from you

So no shame hinders hospitality nor violence

ولأنت الحقيق أنْ لا يُرى من

ك إذا ما وأيْتَ وأْياً ندامُ

And you are truly one from whom is not seen

Regret when you give and give
