لم أخضب الشيب للغواني

أبغي به عندهم ودادا

I did not dye my hair white for the youths,

Seeking their affection through it.

لكن خضابي على شبابي

لَبِسْتُ من بعده حدادا

Rather my dye upon my youth

Is the mourning clothes I donned after it.
