  1. عاصيتُ كل هوى مطاعِ

    وملكت قلبي بالزماعِ

    I disobeyed every desire obeyed,

  2. ورعيتُ حقَّ مودتي

    إذ لم أجدك لها بِراع

    I guarded my true affection,

  3. ونهيت نفسي عن هوا

  4. فعلى مودتك السلا

    م فإنه خير الوداع

  5. وإذا تفرقت الفجا

    ج بنا بفرقة لا اجتماع

    And if separation parts us,

    With a parting that has no reunion.

  6. ليس التضرع للهوى

    من شيمة البطل الشجاع

    It is not brave for the hero

    To plead for the sake of passion.

  7. فاذهب فقبلك ما سلو

    تُ عن الشبيبة والرضاع

    So go, before you what you asked,

    Of youth and breastfeeding.
