ليس كالسُّكر دواءٌ

لغناءٍ كالدواءِ

فاسْقِني عشرين رطلاً

لا تَشبهُنَّ بماءِ

So give me twenty pounds

Don't compare it to water

فلعل السكرَ يكفيـ

ـني أذى هذا العُواءِ

Maybe sugar will protect me

From the harm of this affliction

من رأى منتحِباً غيـ

ـري على سوء الغناءِ

Whoever saw me devastated

Not because of bad singing
