على الطائر الميمون والسعدِ فاركبِ

نجوتَ بإذن اللَّه من كل مَعْطَبِ

Ride the auspicious bird of good fortune,

By God's will you escaped every hardship,

وتاب إليك الدهرُ من كل سيِّئٍ

وأعتَبَك المقدارُ ياخيرَ مُعتَبِ

Time has turned in your favor against all evil,

Fate reprimanded you, best of the reprimanded.

رأى الدهر أنْ لم يهتضم غير نفسهِ

فأقصرَ عمَّا كان غيرَ مؤنَّبِ

Time saw that none complained but itself,

So it shortened what had pained the pained.

بلى قد رماه الناسُ من كلّ جانبٍ

بتأنيبهم إيَّاه رميَ المُحَصَّبِ

Yes, people pelted it from every side,

Their rebuke a volley like that of armed men.

ولم ينهَهُ التأنيبُ بل جودُ قادرٍ

رأى أنه منهُ على حدّ مَغضَبِ

But reproof only increased its openhandedness,

It saw this as a favor to the angry.

وأبصر في إقصارهِ عنك رُشدَهُ

بعاقبةٍ من رأيه المُتعقَّبِ

And it realized in withholding from you its wisdom

In the consequences of its deliberate aim.

فكُلْ من ثمارِ العيش أطيبَ مأكلٍ

وَرِدْ من حياض العيش أعذبَ مشربِ

So enjoy the sweetest fruits of life,

And drink the most delicious drafts of life.

وعش مائةً موفورةً في سعادةٍ

ونعماءَ لا يغتالُها نحسُ كوكبِ

And live in abundant happiness

With prosperity no star can destroy.
