أشربُ الماءَ إذا ما التهبَتْ

نار أحشائي لإطفاء اللَّهَبْ

I drink water when flames ignite

Inside me, to extinguish the blaze

فأَراهُ زائداً في حُرقتي

فكأن الماء للنار حَطَبْ

Yet I find it increases my burning thirst

As if the water itself fuels the fire's raze
