يا أسداً يا ابن جَهْوَرَ طَرَقَتْ

دهياءُ يغني في مثلها الأسدُ

O lion, o son of valor, you have tread

The crafty hyena sings in the likes of it, the lion

وفيك أشياء من خلائقه

محمودةٌ لا يذمها أحدُ

And in you are traits of its morals

Commendable which no one dispraises

لا الغَشْم منه بل البسالة وال

نجدة عند الحفاظ والجَلَدُ

Neither deceit from it but bravery and

Help at preservation and endurance

فأنت يومٌ لآملٍ وَغَدٌ

وأنت يومٌ لخائف وغدُ

For you are a day for a hopeful and a tomorrow

And you are a day for a fearful and tomorrow

حَقِّيَ ظني بك الجميل إذا

ساءت ظنوني وخانت العُددُ

True is my assumption of you if

My assumptions were evil and numbers failed

لا تترك العيْثَ من أبي حسن

يُميل عرشي وأنت لي سندُ

Do not leave the harm of Abu Hasan

Who tilts my throne while you are my support

فلم تزل عند كل مُظْلِمَةٍ

سوداء تَبْيَضُّ من يديك يدُ

So you have not ceased at every injustice

Darkness whitens from your hands the hand
