    أيُّ ذلٍّ لقيتُه في هواكِ

    My sadness for you, O daughter of angels

  2. لم أزلْ ناسكاً فأصبحتُ في الحب

    بِ خليعاً في حلبةِ الفُتَّاكِ

    I was devout, but for love I became

    Immoral in the arena of separations

  3. أين تلك العهودُ لما التقينا

    يوم شعب الغضا ووادي الأراك

    Where are those promises when we met?

    The day of lush meadows and valley of pebbles

  4. ومواثيقُنا بأنْ لستِ تهْوِيْ

    نَ سوانا ولا نحبُّ سواك

    And our covenants that you do not

    Mislead our equals or love others

  5. أخلبتِ القلوبَ حتى إذا مك

    كَنتِ منا أبعدتِها من رضاك

    You have enthralled hearts until when they

    Inclined to you, you distanced them from your approval

  6. لا تسيئي ملك المماليك والمم

    لوكُ ذو واجبٍ على الملاك

    Do not mistreat the king of slaves and kings

    Who has an obligation to the angels

  7. وارأفي بالأسير أو لا فَمُنّي

    بسراحٍ وأنعمي بفكاك

    And have mercy on the prisoner or emancipate me

    And favor with my freedom

  8. واجعلي حظنا لديكِ من الودْ

    دِ استماعاً من النفوسِ الشواكي

    And make our share with you of affection

    Listening from aggrieved souls

  9. كيف للعين بالرُّقادِ وللقل

    بِ بصبر وللقُوى بحراك

    How can the eye sleep and the heart

    Have patience and strength in motion

  10. وبأحشائي منك وعدٌ قديم

    وهوىً زرعُه على الدهر زاك

    And in my core is from you an old promise

    And passion he planted for eternity flourished

  11. وسقامٌ أغصَّ مُحتَسَيَ المغ

    تصِّ من مُسمعاته بالبواكي

    And malady that deafened those who

    Wail to it in the mornings

  12. برزتْ في مها تغصُّ بسِمْطي

    بردٍ بُكرةً على المسواك

    It emerged in her confusion babbling

    Nonsense in the early dawn

  13. واستشاطتْ من شكوِنا ثم قالت

    شغلي عن مقالة الأفلاك

    And she was outraged by our complaint then said

    My business is greater than the planets'

  14. لو به ما شكاهُ منا لما عرْ

    رَضنا في نسيبه للهلاك

    If what he complained of was true, we'd not

    Exposed our match to doom

  15. ثم ولَّتْ كالشمسِ أعلى قضيبٍ

    فوق دعصٍ رابٍ على الأوراكِ

    Then she turned away like the sun on the highest

    Hill above the abandoned ruins

  16. بأبي تلك حين لجَّ بها الإع

    راضُ من واصلٍ ومن ترّاك

    By Heavens! When it defied her, the

    Reprimand from a devoted and loyal one

  17. نال قلبي من حبها مثلَ ما نا

    ل بني هاشمٍ من الأتراك

    My heart gained from her love like the

    Hashimites gained from the Turks
