رأس أبي حفص عظيم المنفعَهْ

كم من يد أمست به ممتعَهْ

The head of Abu Hafs is of great benefit

How many hands have derived pleasure from it

لو عدمته لبكت بأربعه

وأصبحت لفقده مفجَّعه

If I lost it, I would cry with four laments

And without it I would become disconsolate

رأس جلاه الدهر حتى قرَّعه

فلم يدع في جانبيه قزعه

Time has exposed his head until it cracked it

Leaving no hair on its sides

كأنما قرَّعه ليصفعه

لله تلك الهامة المربعه

As if it had cracked it only to slap it

That square turban belongs to God

إذا بدت كالفيشة المقصَّعه

مصقولةً مدهونةً مصنعه

When it appears like an engraved fez

Polished, glazed, and manufactured

ثم هوت فيها يد كالمقمعه

بصفعة هائلة مشعشعه

Then a hand like a funnel falls on it

With a tremendous, blinding slap

كأنها نُفاخة مفرقعه

يا ليت لي يافوخه وأخدعه

As if it were an exploding balloon

Oh, if only I had a stick to deceive him

ملك يد من فضل رب ذي سعه

بل ليتني أسمع تلك القعقعه

A king whose hand was by the grace of the Lord of bounty

Rather, I wish I could hear that knocking sound

مكان أعلى مسمع ومسمعه

Above my hearing and hearing range
