1. لم يُبكني رسمُ منزلٍ طسما

    بل صاحبٌ حال عهدُهُ حُلما

    A deserted abode did not make me weep

    But a companion whose covenant was a dream

  2. خلٌّ جفاني لنعمةٍ حدثت

    له فجازته بالذي حكما

    An intimate who deserted me for a new bounty

    And so he repaid me with what he decreed

  3. لم أجنِ ذنباً إليه أعلمُهُ

    ولا جناه إلى الذي خدما

    I committed no sin known to him

    Nor did he wrong the one who served

  4. لكن تجنّتْ عليه نعمتهُ

    كما تجنَّى عليَّ إذ صرما

    But his bounty betrayed him

    As he betrayed me when we parted

  5. ناكرني ظالماً فناكره

    صاحبُه فاستقادَ وانتقما

    He denied me, wronging me, so I denied him

    His companion; thus he regained composure and took revenge

  6. لا يخلُ من نعمة وموعظة

    تنهى الفتى أن ينفّر النعما

    Bounty and advice never fail

    To caution the youth against spurning bounty

  7. دعوة ذي خلةٍ ومَعْتبةٍ

    يهوَى اللُّها للصديق لا النقما

    The prayer of an intimate outcast

    To whom the Beloved inclines, not to vengeance

  8. لم يدعُ إذ فار صدرُه غضباً

    إلا بما الحظُّ فيه إن قُسِما

    When his breast swelled with rage

    He prayed only for what fate had decreed

  9. دعا بنُعمى وخاف فِتْنتَها

    على أخٍ فابتغَى له العِصما

    He prayed to be blinded, fearing sedition

    Upon a brother, so he sought protection for him

  10. وأحسنُ الظن عند ذاك به

    فلم يخَفْ أن يَظُنَّ أو يَهِما

    And good faith prevailed then towards him

    So he did not fear to suspect or imagine

  11. ولا أراه يرى العتابَ من ال

    شتم وأنى يظُنُّ من علما

    Nor do I see him regarding reproach from one who

    Curses as the same as one who vilifies

  12. ولن يرى المنصفُ المميّزُ مَنْ

    عاتب في نبوة كمن شتما

    The fair arbiter will not see one who

    Reproaches a Prophet as one who defamed

  13. فليغْنَ في غِبطةٍ تدومُ له

    ووعْظِ بَلْوى تزورُه لَمما

    So may he rejoice in lasting bliss

    And advice that will protect him from blame

  14. حتى يراه الإلهُ مُعترفاً

    بالحقّ يرعى الحقوق والحُرَما

    Until God sees him acknowledging

    The truth, upholding rights and sanctities

  15. ولا يراه الذي إذا سبغتْ

    عليه نعماهُ نابِذَ الكرما

    And does not see one who, when

    Bounty is poured upon him, spurns nobility

  16. إيهاً أبا القاسمِ الذي ركب ال

    غشم جِهاراً ونفسَه غشما

    Oh Abu al-Qasim, who brazenly rode the

    Tyrannical wave and drowned himself in tyranny

  17. قل ليَ لِمْ لَمْ تَتِهْ بمعرفة ال

    حقّ وإحكامِ نفسِك الحِكَما

    Tell me, why did you not correct yourself

    With knowledge of truth and self-restraint?

  18. وتِهتَ أن نِلْتَ رُتبةً وَسطاً

    لا شططاً في العُلو بل أَمما

    You went astray when you attained a lofty

    Position - not extremism in ascendance but excellence

  19. هل فُزْتَ في الدولة المباركة ال

    غرّاءِ إلا بحظِ من سلما

    Did you gain prominence in the blessed

    Radiant state except by the fortune of one who submitted?

  20. لا أصْلَ ديوانها وَلِيتَ ولا

    كُنْتَ كمن زَمَّ أو كمنْ خطما

    You were neither native to its bureaucracy nor did you reach it by merit

    You were like those appointed or engraved

  21. ولم تُفِدْ بالعلاء فائدةً

    إلا علاءً بَغيْتَ فانهدما

    Your ascendance brought no benefit

    Except self-aggrandizement which then crumbled

  22. صحِبْتَه فاعتليْتَ ثم أتى

    بغيُك والبغيُ ربما شأما

    You accompanied him, then betrayed him, and then

    Your treachery came, and treachery can be a pit

  23. ولو تلقيتَ بالتواضعِ ما

    أُوتيت منه لتمَّ والتأما

    Had you assumed humility, you would have kept

    What you were given, but you insisted on ruin

  24. حملتَ طغيانك العظيَم على

    أمرِك فانهدَّ بعدما اندعما

    You imposed your great tyranny

    Upon your affairs, so it collapsed after being strong

  25. أصبحتَ أن نِلْتَ فضلَ منزلةٍ

    أُنسيتَ تلك المعاهدَ القُدَما

    You forgot past covenants

    When you attained the lofty position

  26. مُطَّرِحَ الأصدقاء مرتفعَ ال

    همَّة عنهم تراهُمُ قُزُما

    Scornful of old friends, pretentious,

    Seeing them as dwarfs

  27. وإنَّني حالفٌ فمجتهدٌ

    مُنكِّبٌ عن سبيل من أثِما

    I swear I persevere and turn away

    From the path of the sinner

  28. ما رفعَ اللَّه همةً طمحتْ

    تلقاءَ غدرٍ أليَّةً قسما

    God does not elevate an ambition that

    Inclines to betrayal, or a sign that swears

  29. كلا ولا حطَّ هِمّةً جنحتْ

    نحو وفاء كزعمِ من زعما

    No, nor does He diminish one that tends

    To loyalty, as some claim

  30. أمحضُك النصحَ غيرَ محتشمٍ

    هل ماحِضٌ نصحَه من احتشما

    I reproach you plainly, not bashful

    Can reproach be bashful for the reproacher?

  31. ذمَّ الأخلاءُ صاحباً حفظ ال

    مالَ وأضحى يُضيّع الذمما

    The intimates blamed a companion who hoarded

    Wealth and took to squandering obligations

  32. من لَبِسَ الكِبرَ عند ثروتِه

    على أخيه فنفسَه هضما

    One made heedless by his might reminded him

    Of his lowliness - worldly riches deceived him

  33. نبَّه مِن قدرِه على صغر

    خَيَّله حادثُ الغنى عِظما

    Like one whose ancestors were not

    The first in knowledge or merit

  34. كدأْبِ من لم يرثْ أوائِلُه

    سابقةً في العلا ولا قَدما

    One of feeble reputation who gained insight

    So it exaggerated his arrogance though he had none

  35. ضئيلُ شأنٍ أصابَ عارِفةً

    ففخَّمتْ كِبرهُ وما فخما

    He forgot his deficiency - woe to him

    If only he had concealed it!

  36. نَمَّ على نقصِه ويا أسفي

    عليه يا ليت أنه كتما

    The blemished do not act thus

    When deficient, but excel when complete

  37. ما هكذا يفعل الأريبُ من ال

    ناس إذا كان ناقصاً فنما

    How then one in whom no

    Defect ever existed or who was never ignoble?

  38. فكيفَ مَنْ لم يزلْ وليسَ به

    نقصٌ ولا كان سافلاً فسما

    A curse on your days which gathered

    Equity’s foes and nothingness

  39. سَقْياً لأيامك التي جمعتْ

    إنصافَك الأصدقاءَ والعدما

    May God never bestow on you an hour that

    Gathers both and rains calamities without cease

  40. ولا سقَى اللَّه برهةً ضمنتْ

    ضدَّيهما وابلاً ولا دِيما

    No good in wealth that openly encourages

    Betrayal and corrupts morals

  41. لا خيرَ في ثروةٍ تحضُّ على ال

    غدرِ صُراحاً وتمرِضُ الشيما

    I implore you by God and the affection

    Between us, for I count that a womb-tie

  42. ناشدْتُك اللَّه والمودّة في ال

    لَهِ فإني أعُدُّها رَحِما

    That you not be like one whom

    Bounty clothed then betrayed

  43. في أن تكون الذي يتيه

    من نعمةٍ كمن لؤما

    Like one adorned with raiment

    Devoid of decency or dignity

  44. مثلَ التي ظوهرت ملابسها

    وما حلا خَلقُها ولا ضخُما

    Who then felt conceit and admired

    Her reflection, impressed by her garb

  45. فاستشعرتْ نخوةً وأعجَبها

    مرأىً رأته بما اكتستْ غمما

    Ever discontent with her nature

    A witness of her sincerity if blamed

  46. ولم تزلْ قبلَ ذاك ساخطةً

    خلقا شهيداً بصدقِ من ذأما

    Cursing her face, making

    Her companion the butt of blows

  47. لاعنةً وجهها وجاعلةً

    صفحتَهُ عُرضةً لمن لطما

    She flourishes in borrowed garb while

    The one of virtuous nature remains obscure

  48. هاتيك تُزهَى بما اكتستهُ ولا

    تُزْهى التي بَذَّ خلقُها الصنما

    She gleams like a hillock with a branch

    And full moon illuminating the darkness

  49. ممكورةٌ كالكثيب يفرعهُ

    غصنٌ وبدرٌ ينوّر الظُّلما

    Take her unconsciously - I set her forth

    As a symbol - or rather erected her as a sign

  50. خُذها شروداً بعثتُها مثلاً

    تسير لا بل نَصبتُها عَلما

    In her is a reproach that chastises

    The oppressor until he reconsiders

  51. فيها عِتابٌ يردُّ عاديةَ ال

    جائر حتى يُراجع اللَّقما

    Once I did not neglect a friend or

    Reproach until deemed hostile

  52. وكنتُ لا أهملُ الصديق ولا

    أعتبُ حتى أُعدَّ مجترما

    But I say to him plainly, instilling

    In his reproach only subtle words

  53. لكنني قائلٌ له سَدداً

    مُنَخِّلٌ في عتابه الكَلما

    I treat the ailing companion, not

    Tearing him apart and so increasing his pain

  54. أعالجُ الصاحبَ السقيم ولا

    أخرقُ حتى أزيدَهُ سقما

    I prune the branch to set it right, not

    Breaking it violently causing it to snap

  55. أثقّفُ العودَ كي يقومَ ولا

    أعنفُ في غَمزه لينحطما

    I am not saddened by loss of an unworthy one

    If he transgresses, or regret his estrangement

  56. ولست آسَىَ على الخليطِ إذا اع

    تدَّ زِيالي كبعضِ ما غنما

    I deter him from sin, pardoning,

    Not shouting if he persists and offends

  57. لا أجتني من فِراقِه أسفاً

    أو يَجْتنِي من جفائه نَدما

    You corrected my worth unjustly -

    Consult the wise to know true value

  58. أَروعُهُ عن هَناتهِ وأُخلْ

    ليه إذا ما تقحَّم القُحَما

    You considered me a fool -

    Leave him to his fabrications and let him perish

  59. فلا تَخلْ أنني أخفُّ ولا

    أهلعُ صَدَّ الخليل أو رَئما

    Why can you not be like the virtuous

    Husayn, the guided servant of God, unveiler of clouds

  60. إن أنت أقبلتَ لم أطِر فرحاً

    وإن تولَّيت لم أَمُت سدما

    Al-Bāqillānī, the eloquent and expert

    Debater whom honorable deeds made great

  61. إني لوصَّال مَنْ يُواصلني

    جَذّام حبلِ القرين إن جذما

    A brother invited me to share

    What his hands contained, appealing to me

  62. ولستُ أتلو مُولِّياً أبداً

    ولا أنادي من ادّعى صمما

    He called and I responded, coming to find

    One profuse in glory, no mere pretender

  63. قوَّمتَني غير قيمتي غلطاً

    شَاور ذوي الرأي تعرف القيما

    If the noblest of all people

  64. أمتَّ وُديك عَبطةً فمَهٍ

    دَعْهُ على رسله يمت هرما

    Shared glory, good, and bounty, he would take the portion

    With open palm, not withholding,

  65. هلَّا كمثلِ الحسينِ كنتَ أبي

    عبدِ الإلهِ المكشّف الغُمَما

    Greeting bounty with generosity whoever requests

    His generosity is never lacking

  66. الباقطائيِّ ذي البراعة وال

    سؤددِ والمحتدِ الذي كرما

    And principles are a pillar of his obtaining

    He meets want, not mere sufficiency

  67. أخٌ دعاني لكي أشاركَهُ

    فيما حَوتْه يداهُ محتكما

    And abundant blessings, not meager ones

    He restores customs of nobility

  68. دعا فلبّيتُهُ وجئتُ فأل

    فيتُ ضليعاً بالمجد لا بَرما

    An open-handed one who knows no fatigue

    Following his exemplar, the patron

  69. لو ساهم الأكرمين كلَّهمُ

    في المجد والخير وحده سَهُما

    Enriching the land though it suffice when allotted

    His promises are nullified by his loyalty

  70. مُقَبلُ الكفّ غيرُ جامدِها

    يَلثُمُ فيها السماحَ مَنْ لثما

    Never saying no or yes

    He does the deeds of the noble

  71. لا فُقدتْ كفّهُ ولا برحت

    ركناً لعافي النوال مستَلما

    Though bashfulness might hinder him

    Scornful of the little he is given

  72. يَلقَى الغنى لا الكفافَ سائلُهُ

    والنِعمَ السابغات لا النقما

    When hopes are abundant and ambitions lofty

    A feared adversity made me seek refuge in him

  73. يعيدُ ما أبدأتْ يَداهُ من ال

    عرف جوادٌ لا يعرف السأما

    He gave me sanctuary and became inviolable

    His munificence made me safe

  74. يُتبِعُ وسمِيّه الولِيَّ وقد

    أغنى جديب البقاع إن وسما

    His fidelity reassured me against loss

    One who could not redeem me if fate

  75. ألغتْ مواعيدَه فواضلُهُ

    فلم يَقُل قطُّ لا ولا نعما

    Afflicted me, though I had no life left to redeem

    From each dilemma the magnanimous one refused

  76. يفعل ما يفعل الكريمُ ولو

    رقرَقتَهُ من حيائه انسجما

    To give little but his utmost

    He does not grant relief vainly, and if

  77. محتقراً ما أتى وقد غمر ال

    آمال طُولاً وجاوز الهمما

    Asked, you would think the question caused him pain

    Had he cut parts of himself for a beggar

  78. فتى أخافتنيَ الخطوبُ فَعَوْ

    وَلتُ عليه فكان لي حَرما

    It would not have pained him

    He would ransom those who could never

  79. موَّلني جُودُهُ فآمنني

    حِفاظُه أن أعيش مهتضما

    Free him one day if catastrophe struck

    He refuses pleasant things but gives his body

  80. ممنْ إذا ما شهدت أَنَّ له ال

    فضلَ نفَى عن شهادتي التُّهما

    When calamity comes and fates decree

    A man whose generosity the palm hides

  81. لو سكتَ المادحونَ لاجتلبَ ال

    مدحُ له نفسه ولانتظما

    Not displaying it, and when mentioned, you'd think it pained him

    He rises to charity, giving freely

  82. لم أشكُ من غيره عتومَ قِرىً

    حتى قراني الغنى وما عتما

    And sometimes profits, defeating ignominy

    Had he resented giving his soul to a beggar

  83. وهل تُسرُّ الرياضُ عارفةَ الْ

    غيثِ إذا ما أريجُها فغما

    He would have given the dearest parts without pain

    He ransoms those who cannot pay his ransom

  84. أسرَارُه عندنا ودائعُ معْ

    روفٍ تَوارَى فتطلعُ الأَكَما

    When dire straits descend suddenly

    In your hands is the sword - if you strike

  85. كم قد كتمنا سَدىً له كنثا ال

    مسكِ لدى فتقهِ فما اكتتما

    Yourself with it, or one you intend to wound

    Sheathe the sword and save it

  86. يسألُنا دفْنَ عُرفهِ ثِقَةً

    بنشره نفْسَهُ وما ظلما

    For one who opposes you, that they may flee

    Your brother whom you contend with

  87. يغدُو على الجُودِ غادياً غَدِقاً

    وربَّما راحَ رابحاً هَزِما

    Remains, since his people called him forbearing

    A lamp of light, flame of fire

  88. لَوْ حزَّ مِنْ نفسه لسائله

    أَنْفَسَ أعضائه لما أَلِما

    Guiding but not igniting when kindled

    Comforting with opinion and leniency when relaxed

  89. يفديه مَن لا يفي بفديته

    يوماً إذا نابُ أزمةٍ أزما

    And pliable, felling quandaries

    Be discreet in his old age when he shines

  90. من كل كَزّ أبى السماح فما

    يمنحُ إلا أديمَهُ الحلَمَا

    And beware his flames when impassioned

    Consult him, ask his opinion, but beware

  91. لا يبذُلُ الرفدَ مُعْفِياً وإذا

    كُلِّمَ فيه حَسبتَهُ كُلِما

    A wedge of his plots if provoked

    Master of his peers - and if the envious

  92. يا منْ يجاريه في مذاهبه

    أمازحٌ أمْ تُراك مُعْتزما

    Criticizes that status, let him blind himself

    Meet him with utmost grace and intelligence

  93. حاولتَ ما ليس في قواك مِنَ الْ

    أمر فلا تجْشَمنَّ ما جَشما

    If his opponents show grace, for there lies his blood-wealth

    Meet him with greater eloquence than

  94. مَسْمعُ معروفه ومنظرُهُ

    يكفيك فاقنع ولا تَمُتْ نَهَما

    The gentle blowing wind when it breezes

    Meet him with greater munificence

  95. حسبُك من أن يكون مَعْبَداً ال

    مُحْسِنَ ترجيعُهُ لك النغما

    In everything precious, hand and mouth

    Meet him with greater courage than

  96. ويا مُسرّاً له المكايد أم

    سيت فلا تكذبنَّ مُجْتَرما

    A stalwart lion roused to determination

    Meet him with greater honesty in speech

  97. قد حَتَمَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يبورَ أعا

    ديهِ فأَنّى تردُّ ما حَتما

    And gentler restraint than a suppressed groan

    Meet him with subtler style and flow

  98. في كفك السيفُ إن ضربتَ به

    نَفْسَك أو مَنْ تريدُها خَذَما

    Letting his pen glide more smoothly

    His writing dispels blindness when applied as kohl

  99. فأغمدِ السيفَ عنك وانْتَضهِ

    لمن يعاديك يلحقوا إرما

    And his eloquence heals leprosy

    He whom the eminent Abu Isa, sage of the land,

  100. إنَّ أخاك الذي تُزاولُه

    ما زال مذ قال أهلُه حَلُما

    Chose since weaned from his mother's milk

    Whose hands the two viziers kiss

  101. سراجَ نورٍ شهابَ نائرة

    يَهْدِي ولا يُصْطَلى إذا اضطرما

    And pick him out when he smiles

    Leader of all the gentlefolk

  102. يَنْعَشُ بالرأي والسَّماحِ إذا ارْ

    تاحَ ويُغْرَى فيصرع البُهَما

    Who give him the reins on his right

    A noble whose words and deeds both

  103. سرْ في سناه إذا أضاء وإي

    يَاكَ وأُلْهُوبَهُ إذا احْتَدَما

    Command veneration if observed

    The best description of others is

  104. شاورْهُ في الرأي واستمحهُ وإيْ

    يَاكَ وفلقاً منْ كيده رَقَما

    To portray the example he has painted

    He depicts the flawed with reforms

  105. سَيّدُ أكفائه وإن عَتَبَ الْ

    حاسدُ منْ ذاكُمُ وإنْ أَضما

    Like the hand of a mender mends distortions

    Awake whether asleep or roused

  106. تلقاه إنْ حاسَنوهُ أَحسنَهُمْ

    وَجْهاً وأذكاهمُ هناك دما

    Like fire when flames are kindled

    Wisdom never eludes his insight

  107. تلقاه إنْ ظارفوه أظرفَ من

    رَوْحِ نسيم الصَّبا إذا نَسَمَا

    When events rush in suddenly

    At times his thoughts roam and see

  108. تلقاه إنْ جاودوه أجودَهُمْ

    بكل مَنْفوسَة يداً وفما

    The unseen though obscured in darkness

    Prudent, not hastening in resolve

  109. تلقاه إن شاجعوه أشجعَ مِنْ

    قسْوَرَةِ الغيلِ هيجَ فاعتزما

    Or hesitating when resolved

    Seeking solitude, his view there

  110. تلقاه إن خاطبوه أصدقَهُمْ

    قيلاً وأرخاهُمُ به كَظَما

    Is like one seeking a conjecture by casting lots

    He was given precedence until his

  111. تلقاه إنْ كاتبوه آنَقَهُمْ

    وَشْياً وأجراهُمُ بهِ قَلَما

    Creator chose him over all creation

    How many gloomy depths, if not him

  112. يجلو العمَى خطه إذا كَحَلَ ال

    عينَ ويشفى بيانُه القَزَما

    Their murky bottoms would be pits for him

    But his sound opinion and success -

  113. وهو الذي اختاره العلاءُ أبو

    عيسى حكيمُ الإقليم مذ فُطما

    Indeed, he was never ignorant or blind

    Auspicious of fortune, most fit to be bound

  114. يُمْنَى يَدَيْ ذي الوزارتين وعيْ

    نَاه ومُفْتَرُّه إذا ابتسما

    To righteous works, whoever clings to him

    The weighty adviser in public and secret

  115. قائدُ أهل السماح كُلِّهُمُ

    يعطونه في يَمينه الرُّمَما

    When charges are suspect

    Woe to them in their entirety - your

  116. فتى إذا قال أو إذا فعل ال

    أفْعالَ ألقى الورَى له السَّلَما

    Explanation sufficed if you are reasonable

    A breach that saw time rending yet

  117. أحسنُ ما في سواهُ من حَسَن

    أنْ يَحْكِي الصورةَ التي رَسَما

    Continued surmounting the ridges

    Then succeeded him Abu Muhammad

  118. يرسمُ للعُرْجِ ما يقوّمُهُمْ

    تقويمَ كَفّ المقوّم الزُّلَمَا

    The praised in deed, who never wearied

    Fine in nature and character, despite

  119. يقظانُ إنْ نام أو تنبه كال

    نار إذا ما حَششتها الضرَّمَا

    Whoever shows enmity

    A noble whose generosity if impeded

  120. لا يعْزُبُ الرأيُ عن بديهته

    يوما إذا ورْدُ حادثٍ دَهَما

    By lack, he reflects upon you, not himself

    God's grace on one whose glory

  121. وربما جال فكْرُهُ فرأى الْ

    غيبَ وإن كان مُلْبَساً قتَمَا

    Charged at glory, no matter its ore

    From him wealth, counsel, and status are sought

  122. أحْوَسُ لا يسبق الرَّويَّةَ بال

    عزْم ولا يَنْثَني إذا عَزَما

    When affairs whiten with tribulation

    An ocean of purpose, wit, and attainment;

  123. إذا ارتأى خلتَهُ هناك يرى

    وهْو كمن يَرْتَئى إذا رَجَمَا

    Meet him rich, not wanting

    To behold him is a garden illuminated,

  124. فُضِّلَ حتى كان خالقَه

    خَيَّرَه دون خَلْقه القسَما

    Suckling the whole night a teat

    They bring me all good traits

  125. كم غمرةٍ لو سواه غامسَها

    كانت ضَحَاضيحُها له حُوَما

    Without lack, and are never lacking in good

    Thus praises on both equally became

  126. أما وتوفيقُ رأيه لقد اعْ

    تَامَ ومَا كان يجهل العَيما

    Supererogatory, divided between them

    With them, Abu Ahmad is not

  127. أيمنُ ذي طائر وأَجْدرُه

    أن تلزَم الصالحاتُ مَنْ لزما

    Like a monk or mendicant without access

    Servant of the Majestic, the Majestic One, if

  128. الراجح الناصحُ الظّهارة وال

    غَيْبِ إذا الصّنْوُ كان مُتَّهَمَا

    A visitor seeks him as refuge and sanctuary

    Three intimates made

  129. واهاً لها جملةً كفتْكَ من ال

    تفْسير إن كنتَ عاقلاً فَهما

    The pillar of every towering glory

    Yet you consider them three individuals

  130. خرْقٌ رأى الدهْرَ وهْو يثْلُم في

    حَالي فما زال يرتقُ الثُّلَما

    And if distinguished, you find throngs

    He who honored me through them prolonged

  131. ثم تلاهُ أبو محمدٍ ال

    محمود في فعله فما سَئما

    Their lives until stars and meteors expire

    The Banū Shāhanshāh whose

  132. الحسنُ المحْسِنُ المحسَّنُ أخ

    لاقاً وخَلْقاً برغم مَنْ رَغما

    Triumph trampled on non-Arabs and Arabs alike

    If your ancestors built for you

  133. فتى إذا عاقَ جودَهُ عَوَزٌ

    فكَّر فيما عناك أوْ وَخما

    A monument of glory with lofty pinnacles

    Your present actions have now fulfilled

  134. للَّه درُّ امرئٍ تيمَّمَ جدْ

    واه على أي معدنٍ هجما

    Their right, restoring those ruins

    Your deeds revived your ancestry

  135. يُسْترفَدُ المالَ والمشورةَ وال

    جاهَ إذا الخطب شيَّبَ اللِّمَما

    Not their souls or breaths

    Can it harm one of noble lineage

  136. بحرٌ من الجدِّ والفكاهة وال

    نائل تلقاهُ ذاخراً فَعِمَا

    If his living body is made dust?

    Lower them and I do not feel safe with them

  137. مَشْهَدُهُ روضَةٌ مُنَوَّرَةٌ

    أُرْضعَت الليلَ كلَّه الرّهَمَا

    Radiant, speaking of pearls and corals

    How can I boast or rebuild with them

  138. تعاوراني بكلّ صالحةٍ

    لا عَدمَا صالحاً ولا عُدِما

    A structure when they are no foundation?

    I praised two laudable ones through the ages

  139. لذاك أضحتْ محامدي نَفَلاً

    بينهما بالسَّواء مُقْتَسَما

    With praises preceding my precedent

    I did not innovate in praising you

  140. وما أبو أحمدٍ بدونهما

    لراهبٍ أو لراغب حُرما

    Though people before me versified extensively

  141. عبدُ الجليل الجليلُ إن طرقَ ال

    طارق مُسْتَرْفداً ومُعْتَصما

  142. إخوةُ صدْقٍ ثلاثةٌ جُعِلوا

    لكل مَجدٍ مُشَيَّدٍ دِعَما

  143. فأنت تَعْتدُّهُمْ ثلاثَة أشْ

    خاص وإن تبلُهُمْ تجدْ أُمَما

  144. أبقاهُمُ مَنْ أعزَّني بهمُ

    ما أفلَ النَّيّران أَوْ نجما

  145. بَني شَهِنْشَاه الذي وطئتْ

    عزَّتُهُ المعرِبينَ والعَجما

  146. إن يَكُ آباؤكم بنوا لكُمُ

    طوْداً من المجد يفرَعُ القمَما

  147. فقد قضى حقَّهُم فَعالُكُمُ ال

    آن بمَحياهُ تلكُمُ الرِّمَما

  148. أحيتْ أفاعيلُكم أوائلَكُمْ

    أحسابَهُمْ لا النفوسَ والنَّسَما

  149. وهل يضرُّ امرءاً له حَسَبٌ

    حيٌّ أن احْتَلَّ جسْمُه الرَّجَمَا

  150. دونكموها وما أَمُنُّ بها

    غراءَ تحكي اللآلئَ التُّؤما

  151. وكيفَ مَنّي وما رمَمْتُ بها

    لكم بناءً وَهى ولا انثلما

  152. مدحتُ منكم مُمَدَّحينَ على ال

    دَهر أماديحَ تَقْدُم القِدما

  153. لم أبتدعْ بدعةً بمدحكُمُ

    قد قَرَّضَ الناسُ قبلِيَ الأدَمَا
