يا أبا الصقر زادك الله في المج
دِ علوّاً وفي المكارم باعا
O father of the falcon, may God increase your glory
And generosity, though you have risen high in glory
مع أن قد علوت في المجد حتى
لم تدع فيه مبلغاً مستطاعا
Leaving no attainable heights beyond you
You are a sun that illuminated East and West
أنت شمس أضاءت الشرق والغر
ب وأضحى لها إلينا شعاعا
Your light reached us in beams
Through you our hopes returned, hopes that were once ambitions
بك عادت آمالنا وهي آما
ل وقد كُنَّ مرة أطماعا
God, the Caliph and all people witness
That you are the minister the Sultan trusts
شهد الله والخليفة والنا
س جميعاً شهادة إجماعا
Not to lose or take anything away
You are the generous one who when he gains good fortune
أنك الكاتب الذي يأمن السل
طان منه إضاعة واقتطاعا
Is not stingy when attaining it
You gather war booty for the Caliph completely
والجواد الذي إذا نال حظاً
لم يكن عند نيله مناعا
With no stray threads lost from it
And when you take your share
تجمع الفيء للخليفة جمعاً
لا يشذ الفتيل منه ضياعا
You are not greedy in taking it
People begged you for gifts from your palm
وإذا ما أخذت سهمك منه
لم تكن عند أخذه جماعا
To increase the more you live
It was coarse when you gave and it became
أبت الجمع منك روحاء من كف
فَيك تزداد ما حييت اتساعا
A skilled craft when collecting taxes
Wondrous are your hands and the war booty however
هي خرقاء حين تعطي وكانت
حين تستخرج الخراج الصناعا
They gather the scattered threads of its beams
For they are sure to ruin money
عجباً من يديك والفيء أنّى
يجمعان الشتيت منه الشعاعا
Plundering it in shares
Lost are those who congratulate you for being
وهما آفتان للمال حتمٌ
منهما أن يكون نهباً مشاعا
Appointed minister, a role you deserve
You are too high for one who says to you
ضلّةٌ للمهنئيك بأن ول
لِيت ما تستحقه إقطاعا
Congratulating you on being appointed minister of loss
Rather people should congratulate you
أنت أعلى من أن يقول لك القا
ئل يهنيك أن وليت الضياعا
On losses you preserved from vanishing
And subjects you protected after
ولأولى بأن يهنِّئك النا
س ضياعٌ حفظتها أن تضاعا
Wolves shared in guarding them
Congratulations to you for protecting those you watched over
ورعايا حميتها بعد أن شا
رك في حفظها الرعاء السباعا
May God save their flock from being lost
And congratulations on the reward when
فهنيئاً لمن رعيت هنيئاً
آمن الله سربهم أن يضاعا
One in power is congratulated on gaining possessions
And excellent praise in you when it is
وهنيئاً لك الثواب إذا هن
نِئَ والٍ بأن أصاب متاعا
Made pleasing to listening ears
Nothing compares to the sight of you leading
والثناء الجميل فيك إذ صُي
يِرَ للسامعين طراً سماعا
Or the sound of your mention reaching ears
May God make your glorious ancestors
ما يداني إيناقُ منظرك الأب
صارَ إيناقَ ذكرِك الأسماعا
When ancestry competes, most triumphant
جعل الله جدَّك الظاهر الأع
لى إذا جدَّتِ الجدود اصطراعا
