غصنٌ من البان في وشاحِ
ركَّب في مَغْرِس رَداحِ
A twig from acacia in a scarf
Planted in a fertile garden
يهتز طوعاً لغير ريح
والغصن يهتز للرياحِ
Sways gently without any wind
While the twig sways with the winds
غصن ولكنه فتاة
بديعة الشكل في الملاحِ
A twig but it is a maiden
Of beautiful figure and glamour
زينتْ بوجه عليه فرع
يحكي ظلاماً على صباحِ
Adorned with a face on which a branch
Tells of darkness at dawn
ينفسح الطرف حين تبدو
غُرتُه أيَّما انفساحِ
Her cheek blossoms when she appears
However she may blush
يا حسنَ خد لها رقيقٍ
يكاد يَدمى بلا جراحِ
O, beauty of a delicate cheek
That nearly bleeds without a wound
ترنو بطرف لها مريض
بين جفون لها صحاحِ
She ogles with a sick glance
Between eyelids fully awake
لم يدَّكرها المحبُّ إلا
طار اشتياقاً بلا جناحِ
Her lover cannot remember her
Except he yearns without wings
مثِّلْهما آخذَيْ نصيب
من الفكاهات والمزاحِ
Portray them as taking a share
Of jokes and wit
في عض خدٍّ ولثم ثغرٍ
ورشف ريقٍ وشرب راحِ
In biting a cheek and kissing lips
And sipping saliva and drinking comfort
بلا نِفارٍ ولا نقارٍ
ولا ضِرارٍ ولا تلاحي
Without dislike or rejection
No harming or contradicting
ولا لجاَجٍ ولا ضِجاجٍ
ولا حِرانٍ ولا جماحِ
No wrangling or clamouring
No sorrow or vigour
ذوِي سرورٍ ذوي حبورٍ
ذوي نشاطٍ ذوي مراحِ
Happy, delighted, vivacious and rested
So no nonsense but
بحيث لا لغو فيه إلا
غناء طيرٍ به فصاحِ
The singing of a bird with eloquence
A bird that sings whenever it desires
طير تغني إذا تغنَّت
مهما أرادا بلا اقتراحِ
However they wish without suggesting
A place of sincerity that accommodates
محلُّ صدقٍ يحل فيه
أهل السعادات والفلاحِ
People of fortune and success
Pure, they do not budge from it
طاب فما يبرحان منه
ولا يريدان من بَراحِ
Nor want to leave
O beauty, the maiden said my love
يا حسن قول الفتاة حِبَّى
أنجحتَ أقصى مدى النجاحِ
You have attained the utmost success
You may do what you desire, congrats
تفعل ما تشتهي هنيئاً
ليس على الصبِّ من جناحِ
The lover bears no burden

حقُّك أن تستبيح منِّي
