    ر سريعةٌ وإلى الثُغورِ

    Life changes rapidly to desires

    And to the edges of battlefields

  2. فتراهما يتغيرا

    ن وكلُّ عُضوٍ ذو وُفور

    You see them change

    And every limb has passion

  3. هذِي تَشيب وهذه

    تَبْلَى على مر الشهورِ

    Some grow grey and others

    Wear out over months

  4. يسود أبيضُها ويَبْ

    يضُّ البهيم بغير نور

    Their whiteness darkens and the beast

    Grows white without light

  5. حتى إذا غِيَرُ المما

    ت أتتْ على أهل القبور

    Until when death changes

    It comes upon the people of graves

  6. بدأ البلى بسوى الثغو

    ر هنالكم وسوى الشعور

    Decay began at the edges

    Of battlefields, there, and at desires

  7. فالموت يستبقي الذي

    تُبلي الحياة من الأمور

    So death preserves what

    Life wears out of things

  8. والعيش يستبقي الذي

    تُبْلي المنية غيرَ زور

    And living preserves what

    Death without falsehood wears out
