أقِصَرٌ وَعَوَرٌ

وصَلَعٌ في واحِدِ

Short and limping

And bald at once

شواهدٌ مقبولةٌ

ناهيك من شواهدِ

Acceptable testimonies

Not to mention testimonies

تُخبرنا عن رجلٍ

مسْتعمَلِ المقافِدِ

That tell us of a man

Whose seat was worn

أقْمأَهُ القفْدُ فأضْ

حى قائماً كقاعدِ

Whom rachitis bent so he

Stood erect as one seated

فكفَّ منه بصراً

مثل السراج الواقدِ

So he averted his sight

Like a flaming lamp

وحَتَّ منه شَعراً

أسْوَدَ كالعناقِدِ

And his hair fell out

Black as clusters of grapes
