    With a bright letter, sweet as honey,

    Filled as if with treasuries of musk,

    عن العسل الماذيِّ والعنبر الهندي

    Sealed on all sides, its dress exuding

    Aromatic oils and camphor of India;

    Shifting in hue from the green of its leaves

    To their yellow, between saffron and snow.

    Long have I lingered on its lofty lines

    Glimpsed only from afar, beyond my reach,

    Sweeter than yearning, happier than attainment,

    More delightful than a lover come to wed.
