I've tasted flavors, but found no pleasure
In the company of wicked and virtuous folk alike.
As for a friend, I do not like meeting him,
Fearing rebuke and loathing his faults.
And I see the enemy as an annoyance, so I hate his nearness.
Thus have I shunned all people for reproaching me.
Show me a friend who is not bowed by a single misstep,
Or a blemish that dims the sheen of his day.
Show me one whom you have known, and found
Overlooking your slightest careless act.
The joy of the sincere, when fates and trials
Vary, comes from comparing one state to another.
If the sincere were to share alike,
They would not rejoice in the differing of ages.
Shall I love a people who love not their Lord,
Save for a paradise He has, and a hellfire?
