1. خَجِلتْ خُدودُ الوردِ مِن تفضيله

    خجلاً تَورُّدُها عليه شاهدُ

    The cheeks of roses blushed with shame

    At his preference, their blush upon him witness

  2. لم يخجل الورد المورّد لونه

    إلا وناحِلُه الفضيلةَ عاندُ

    The roses did not blush their rosy color

    Except an obstinate partisan granted him superiority

  3. فصْلُ القضية أن هذا قائد

    زهرَ الرياض وأن هذا طاردُ

    The crux of the matter is he’s a leader

    Of garden’s blossoms, while he’s a chaser

  4. شتَّان بين اثنين هذا مُوعدٌ

    بتسلب الدنيا وهذا واعدُ

    Worlds apart between two, one a promiser

    Of ravaging the world, the other a keeper of promises

  5. وإذا احْتَفَظْتَ به فأمتَعُ صاحبٍ

    بحياته لو أن حيَّاً خالدُ

    If you keep him, most joyous the companion

    Whose life, if alive, is eternal

  6. للنرجس الفضلُ المبينُ وإن أبى

    آبٍ وحاد عن الطريقة حائدُ

    The clear virtue is for the narcissus, even if

    An obstinate one deviated from the path and went astray

  7. من فضله عند الحِجَاج بأنه

    زهر ونَوْر وهو نبت واحدُ

    Thanks to it being in the presence of the loved ones

    A flower, light, and sprout in one

  8. يحكي مصابيحَ السماء وتارةً

    يحكي مصابيح الوجوه تَراصَدُ

    It relates the lamps of the sky and at times

    Relates the lamps of the faces lying in wait

  9. يَنْهي النديم عن القبيح بلحظِه

    وعلى المدامة والسماع مُساعدُ

    It discourages the boon companion from the ugly with its glance

    And aids the wine and music

  10. اطلُب بعفوك في الملاح سمَيَّهُ

    أبداً فإنك لا محالة واجدُ

    Seek with your pardon its poison in the sailing ships

    For you will forever find it undoubtedly

  11. والورد لو فتشت فردٌ في اسمه

    ما في الملاح له سميٌّ واحدُ

    If you examined the rose, particle of its name

    Has no synonym in sailing ships, only one

  12. هذي النجوم هي التي ربَّتهما

    بِحَيَا السحاب كما يُربي الوالدُ

    These stars are the ones who raised them

    With the clouds' downpour as a parent raises a child

  13. فتأمل الإِثنين مَنْ أدناهُما

    شَبَهاً بوالده فذاك الماجدُ

    So look closely at the two, which of the two

    Resembles his father, that one is the glorious

  14. أين العيون من الخدود نفاسةً

    ورياسةً لولا القياسُ الفاسد

    Where are eyes compared to cheeks in rarity

    And leadership, if not for the corrupt analogy
