    رُسُل القلوب إلى القلوبْ

  2. والشوقُ يفعل بالعزاء

    فعلَ الإنابة بالذنوبْ

    And yearning does to consolation

    What repentance does to sins.

  3. لا والذي بجفائهِ

    وَصَلَ المدامعَ بالنحيبْ

    No, by Him whose aloofness

    Joined tears to lamentation,

  4. ما شفَّ جسمي في الهوى

    إلا مراقبةُ الرقيبْ

    My body gained no relief in love

    Save through the watcher's oversight.
