لو يعلم الأعداء أين تُحِلّني

لَعَدَوَا بأظفارٍ عَلَيَّ حدادِ

If my enemies knew where you dwell,

They would pounce on me with sharpened claws.

أو تُبْغض الدنيا كبُغضكَ عشْرَتي

أصبحتَ معدوداً من الزهَّادِ

Or if you hated the world like my clan hates you,

You would be counted among the ascetics.

ولو اطَّلعتَ على هوايَ جعلتني

بمَحَلِّ رُوح من صميم فؤادِ

And if you knew my secret love, you would make me

The object of a soul emerging from the depths of my heart.
