One day I asked Khaled
The one with glory and the spacious home
Why has your glory bowed down
To tyranny, he replied with lamentation
Distinguish with your mind which of us
Is strangled in the house of misery
Until you see him in disgrace
Covering all kinds of wailing
But which of us is wronged more
And melted down into worthless iron
I said: the tyranny, he told me
Be silent, o son of vileness
Why did you accuse me arrogantly
You know nothing of my agony
Truthful are the words of Khaled
Of eloquent, wrathful, simple speech
For he who is surrounded is more worthy
Of the disgraced than the surroundings
