1. رأيتُ كُلَّ شراب لا مَساغَ له

    غير المدامةِ إلّا عِند ظمآن

    I have seen every undrinkable drink

    Except wine for the thirsty one

  2. كأسٌ يسوغها الريانُ لذتَها

    إذا تأبَّى سواها كُلُّ رَيَّانِ

    A cup sweetened by the vine’s delight

    If anything else refused to sweeten

  3. يَملُّ كلَّ شرابٍ من يُعاقِرُهُ

    وشاربُ الراح مشعوفٌ بها عاني

    Every drink makes nauseous whom sips it

    Yet the drinker of wine is enamored, infatuated

  4. كريقةِ المرء لا تنفك من فمه

    وما يَمَلُّ لها طعماً لإبَّان

    A man's sip never leaves his mouth

    Never tiring of its taste
