أبْشِرْ بفتْح لكَ مَفْتُوحِ
مِنْ نَافح بالخيْر مَنفُوحِ
Rejoice in the conquest opened for you
From a palm tree exuding goodness when stirred
واشربْ على النرجِسِ مقْدُوحَةً
في الكأْس لم تُطْبَخْ بمَقْدُوحِ
And drink from narcissus kindled
In a cup not cooked by kindling
كأَنَّها بالمسكِ مَجْدُوحَةٌ
بلْ هِيَ مِسْكٌ غيرُ مَجْدُوحِ
As if it were suffused with musk
Rather it is pure musk without infusion
بَيْنَ نَدَامَى كلُّهُم جَامحٌ
ليس عن الغَيِّ بمَكَبُوحِ
Among boon companions all impassioned
Not abstaining from pleasure or fermented by sorrow
زِقَاقُهُمْ في الدار مَبْطُوحَةٌ
وعُودُهُمْ ليس بِمَبْطُوح
Their homes in the abode spread out
While their tent poles are not spread out
أجْوَفُ مِرْنَانٌ ومَمْلُوءَةٌ
أعْذَبَ مَكْرُوعٍ ومَنْشُوحِ
Hollow flutes and filled up
Sweeter than strained and filtered
مِنْ بين مَذْبُوحٍ لِنَاجُودِهِمْ
وبيْنَ حَيٍّ غيْرِ مَذْبُوحِ
Between slaughtered for their generosity
And living not slaughtered
يا حبَّذا النرجِسُ ريْحَانةً
لأنْفِ مَغْبُوقٍ ومَصْبُوحِ
O excellent is the narcissus as a sweet basil
To a stuffed up and bleary nose
كأنه مِنْ طِيبِ أرْوَاحِهِ
رُكِّبَ من رَوْحٍ ومن رُوحِ
As if it were composed of the scent of their spirits
Assembled from soul and breath
أبْدى وُجُوهاً غيْرَ مَقْبُوحَةٍ
في زَمَن ليْسَ بمقبوحِ
It displayed faces not ugly
In a time not ugly
يا حُسنَهُ في العيْنِ يا حسنه
مِنْ لامحٍ للشَّرْبِ ملموحِ
O its beauty in the eye o its beauty
From a hint to the drinker of salty water
كأنَّما الطَّلُّ على نَوْرِهِ
ماءُ عُيُونٍ غيْرُ مَطروحِ
As if the dew upon its light
Were water of eyes not spilled
لو شاهَدَ الورْدُ أحَايِينَهُ
لم تَرَ ورْداً غيْرَ مَسْفُوحِ
If the rose witnessed its festivals
No rose would remain uneffused
أما تَرَى الحُمْرَةَ في وجهِهِ
تَنْطِقُ عنْ خَجْلَةِ مَفْضُوحِ
Do you not see the blush on its face
Speaking of an exposed embarrassment
مِيلا عن الورْدِ إلى سَيِّدٍ
من سادة الرّيْحانِ ممدوحِ
Inclined from the rose to a master
Of the masters of sweet basil praised
كأنما تُنْشَرُ أيَّامُهُ
من بيْن مَطْلُولٍ وَمَنْضُوحِ
As if its days were spread out
Among requested and poured out
ما ينْشُرُ المُدَّاح عنْ قاسِم
من مُجْمَلٍ فيه ومَشْرُوحِ
Not what the praiser spreads about Al-Qasim
Of collection therein and explained
وَاهاً لأنْفَاسٍ له في الدُّجَى
وعنْدَ مَمْشَى النُّورِ في اللُوحِ
Woe to the breaths for it in the darkness
And at the passage of light on the tablet
قَاسِمُ يا قَاسِمَ أمْوالِهِ
لا زِلْتَ بَحْراً غير مَنْزوحِ
Al-Qasim o Al-Qasim his wealth
You remain a sea not drained
أنت الذي لَمْ يَلْقَهُ نَاظِرٌ
إلّا بِقُدُّوسٍ وسُبُّوحِ
You whom no onlooker met
Except with sanctity and praise
ولا تَعَدَّاهُ وأسْبَابَهُ
بالميْلِ إلّا كلُّ مَتْرُوحِ
None transgressed against it and its causes
Except every deviant
ولا رأيْنَا المدْحَ في غيرِه
إلا سَوَاماً غَيْرَ مَسْرُوحِ
And we saw no praise in another
Except rambling not composed
ولاَ انْثَنَى مُبْضِعُ تَمْجِيدِهِ
إلا بِرِبْح منه مَرْبُوحِ
Nor bent the yield of its glorification
Except with profit from it earned
طُوفَانُ نُوحٍ دُونَ هذا النَّدَى
فابْقَى بقاء المصْطَفَى نُوحِ
The flood of Noah is less than this dew
So remain with the permanence of Noah the chosen
مُحَمَّلاً في دَعَةٍ حَامِلاً
ثِقْلَ المَعَالِي غيْرَ مَفْدُوحِ
Carrying in humility bearing
The weight of sublimities not emptied
لا يَعْدَمِ النَّاسُ جَدَا مَانحٍ
لِلْعُرْفِ واسْتِبْشَارَ مَمْنُوحِ
The people do not lack constant benefaction
To custom and joy conferred
تَجْرَحُ في مالِك لِلمُجْتَدِي
من دُونِ عِرْضٍ غَيْرِ مَجْرُوحِ
Wounding the wealth of the noble
Without flaw not wounded
يَا آلَ وَهْبٍ باتَ أعْداؤكم
من بين مذبوحٍ ومَشْبُوحِ
O family of Wahb your enemies spent the night
Among slaughtered and roasted
ولا خلا ضدٌّ لكم ناطِحٌ
من ناطح يُودَى بِمَنْطُوحِ
And no rival of yours charged against you
A charger to be repelled with thrown
ولا خَلا حَظٌّ لكم مُنْفِسٌ
منْ كَاشحٍ في ثوب مَكْشُوحِ
Nor did any share of yours breathe envy
In a worn out garment patched
وماتَ حُسَّادُكمُ حسْرَةً
من بين مَسْيُوفٍ ومَرْمُوحِ
Your enviers died in sorrow
Among stabbed and speared
أصْبَحَت الدنيا بِكُمْ هَشَّةً
مُرْتَاحَةً فَيَّاحَةَ السُّوحِ
The world through you became gentle
At ease, fragrant with breezes
مَأْوىً لجارٍ غيرِ مُسْتَهْلَكٍ
مَثْوَىً لِضَيْفٍ غيرِ مَنْبُوحِ
A refuge for a neighbor not worn out
An abode for a guest not driven away
لِيَلْجَأ الناسُ إلى ظلِّكم
أدَّى نصيحٌ حقَّ منصوحِ
So people take refuge in your shade
A trusted advisor fulfilled a promised duty
