O son of the minister whose ministry is complete

Do not gather upon me disgrace and fire

If I have done well in describing your virtues

Then bless me with good deeds in return

Or if I have said what I do not deserve from you

Of reward, then take it back and undo it

Verily, praise, when it goes alone

Clothes the one who said it in shame

God knows that I do not flatter you

In my praise of you and overdoing

An eloquent one may be deluded by his eloquence

And one may assume other than the chosen, chosen

So your pardon of one who errs unintentionally

Would make God your protector against his anger

I see your forgiveness of me and your veiling

Of my shortcomings as greater than reward

Preserve my nature as you have preserved your bounty

From me, otherwise be an impartial judge

Who has permitted you to violate my nature

And extend curtains over good deeds?

Nonsense poetry wherein lies the disgrace of begging

Both clothe the discreet in nakedness

Return to me a faulty couplet that escaped my chest

And found no supporters when oppressed

You deemed it small so were excessive, yet it deserves

Had God completed what was made small by belittlement

Return to me an ugly thing, beautiful in your eyes

I see what you have scorned as grand
