لا تحسب الشيخ أبا حفصل

يعيش من أقلامه الصُلَّعِ

Do not think Sheikh Abu Hafs

Lives off his tattered pens

لكن من الله ومن زوجه

تستدخل الأصلع في المخدع

Rather from God and his wife

The bald one procures lodging

ليست بذي بأس ولكنها

قوَّامة الليل على الأربع

She's no great force but

Stays up nights on all fours

من كسبها عاش أبو حفصل

وطال ما عاش مع الجوَّع

Who earns her, lives Abu Hafs

And long lives with hunger's roars

وربما عاد على نفسه

بكسب رأس جيد المصفع

And maybe gets back at himself

With earnings from a good knock

يمكن بالأكلة من صفعه

في ساحة الرأس وفي الأخدع

It's possible with a blow from a slap

To his head's space and temples
