My eyes saw a graceful figure

With a face like the full moon

I became captive to love, as if

    I had drunk heady wine

My heart complained of the tyranny of my eyes

And said they led me to passion

So I said, though they did him wrong

Don't you see they've abandoned sleep

My body complained of them both

For they brought me only sickness

I said all three have done wrong

Staying awake, persisting in their plight

My eyes keep vigil, my body weakened

    My heart remains restless

While Munkar thinks love a game

Though passion sits enthroned within her

I think today has been a month

A month not seeing her this year

    She lingers in Numan's village

Staying there just to spite me

May God strike her protector dead

    And hasten my revenge

If she enjoys what she has reaped

I want no part of her remains

Yet still each day I renew

My longing, my yearning, my care

In my heart is a fire of desire

Growing in fervor when far from her

Time may slowly close the distance

    And bring us together again

Healing with the salve of union

The sickness and grief of separation

It's enough what I have endured and recovered

No longer bothered by blameful love

You'd think me the greatest lover

    The first crazed by passion
