من عذيري من الخلائف حَلُّوا

بمحلِّ المُليم كلِّ المُليمِ

From my excuse of the caliphs who settled

In the place of the painful, all the painful

حفظوا حقَّ مُصعبٍ في سلي

مانَ بتضييع كلِّ أمرٍ جسيمِ

They preserved the right of Mu'sab in folly

That led to the loss of every important matter

نَفَلوه على الهزيمةِ بغدا

دَ كأن قد أتى بفتح عظيمِ

They left him to defeat in the morning

As if he had come with a great conquest

لم يكن مثله يُولَّى ولكن

حفظوا في الحديث حقَّ القديمِ

There was none like him appointed but

They preserved in speech the right of the ancient

ضيّعوا حُرمة الخلافة جهلاً

ورعوا حرمة العظام الرميمِ

They lost the sanctity of the caliphate in ignorance

And observed the sanctity of the frail bones

سوف تُغني العظامُ عنهم إذا ما

أصبح الملك مستباحَ الحريمِ

The bones will sing of them when

The kingdom becomes permissible to violate
