لا تَحْسَبَنَّ الزمانُ ينسئك الـ

ـقرضَ ولكنه يداً بيدِ

Do not think time will forget to collect from you,

Rather, it gives you a day and takes from you in return

يعطيك يوماً فيقتضيك به

مَريرة من مرائر الجسدِ

A bitterness from the bitternesses of the body.

It steals something from your strengths even if

يَسْتَرِقُ الشيء من قُواك وإن

كان خفياً عن أعين الرَصَدِ

It is hidden from the eyes of observers.

State by state until it returns you to decrepitude

حالاً فحالاً حتى يَرُدَّكَ للـ

ـكِبرة بعد الشباب والغَيدِ

After youth and glory.
