يا أبا الصقر إنَّ شُكْري لمعْرو

فِكَ شكرٌ باقٍ على الأيامِ

O Abu Al-Saqr, my gratitude to Ma'ruf

Is lasting gratitude through the days

فاستدمْهُ فإنما تصحب النعْ

مةُ من كان دائم الإنعام

So keep it ongoing, for blessing accompanies

The one who is ever bestowing favor

لك صفو المديح والشكر مني

في نظام وصلته بنظامِ

To you belongs the choicest praise and thanks from me

In consistent composition and rhyme

وعيونٍ ما مثلها من عيونٍ

آخذاتٍ مختارَ كُلِّ كلام

And eyes unlike any other eyes

That take the select of every utterance

لا أذُمُّ الزمانَ ما كنتَ ترعى

يا أبا الصَّقرِ حُرمَتي وذِمامي

I will not blame time as long as you nurture

O Abu Al-Saqr, my sanctity and protection

لم أزل منك في نعيم مقيم

لم يزل عند رِحلتي ومُقامي

I have remained in lasting bliss

That persisted whether my abode or travels

ضلَّ من قد دعوتُ دونَكَ عني

ووجدت الكرامَ غيرَ كرام

Astray are those I called upon besides you

For I found no nobility except the noble

وضمانٌ على مديحي وشُكري

لك حُسْنُ الثَّناءِ في الأقوام

And it is guaranteed, my praise and gratitude

For you have excellent commendation among all people

وبِحَسْبي بأنَّ شكري لمعرو

فِكَ مما أُريتُهُ في المنام

And it suffices me that my thanks to Ma'ruf

Fulfilled what I saw in my dream

نابَ عَنْ صِدْقِهِ وصِدْقِ وفائي

لك بالشكر صادقُ الأحلام

It represented the sincerity of my allegiance

And truthfulness to you in thanks and dreams

صُمْتُ عمَّنْ سواكَ من سائر النَّا

س ففطْري بذاكَ عند صيامي

I am silent towards all other people

For my nature with that during my fast

لستُ ممن ينام عن واجب الحْق

قِ عليه وأنت غَيْثُ الأنام

I am not one who neglects the duty of truth

Upon him while you are rain for all people

قد يُحَثُّ الجوادُ غيرَ بطيءٍ

ويُهَزُّ الحسامُ غيرَ كهام

The steed, though no sloth, may be whipped

And the sword, though no dullard, shaken
