غيَّره الكونُ والفسادُ

ولاح في خده سوادُ

The universe and corruption changed him,

And blackness shone on his cheek,

كأنه دمنة أمحَّتْ

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

As if it were a dunghill that was extinguished,

And all its traces turned to ashes.
