أَنا عَبْدُ وُدِّكَ لا أُخِلُّ وإِنْ تَكُنْ

حَلَّيْتَنِي في الشعرِ باسْمِ خليلِ

I am your devoted slave, I do not fail

Even if you have adorned me in poetry with the name of a friend

وعليكَ يا بَدْرَ الفضائِلِ نُظِّمَتْ

مِدَحِي فجاءَتْ وَهْيَ كالإكْلِيلِ

And excellences moon, my praise is composed for you

So it came shy like a wreath

أَهلاً بشعر منكَ للشِّعْرَى به

شَرَفُ اشتراكِ الإِسْمِ لا التَّفْضيلِ

Welcome the poetry from you, for the poets with it

The honor of sharing the name, not excellence

وثَلاَثَةٍ عَوَّذْتُها بثَلاَثَةِ ال

قرآنِ والتوارةِ والإِنجيلِ

And three I have protected with three

The Quran, Torah and Bible

ثُنِيَتْ فكادَتْ أَن تكونَ بُثَيْنَةً

وَعَلِقْتُها فغدوتُ مثلَ جَميل

Bent, almost to the point of becoming intertwined

And I suspended it, so I became like a camel
