1. أَندَى وجهٍ وَسِيمِ

    وشذا عرف نسيمِ

    The face of a handsome one,

    And the fragrance of a gentle breeze,

  2. واصطباحات مُدامٍ

    بين راحاتِ نديمِ

    And convivial morning drinks,

    In the company of a boon companion,

  3. وسماعٌ من رخيمِ الدَّ

    لِّ ذي صوتٍ رخيمِ

    And the strains of a delicate voice,

    With a delicate, melodious tone,

  4. ونعيمٌ دارُنا اللدَّ

    ةُ من دارِ النعيمِ

    And the bliss of our lasting abode,

    Unlike the abode of bliss,

  5. وصباحٌ من سرورٍ

    شقَّ ليلاً من همومِ

    And a morn of joy,

    That rift a night of worries,

  6. أَم بُنَيَّاتُ كريمٍ

    لا بُنَيَّاتُ كروم

    Are they the daughters of a generous one?

    No, they are vines’ daughters,

  7. أَطْلَعَتْ منها ليالِي النِّ

    قْسِ أَمثالَ النجومِ

    There emerged from them nights of precise astrolabe,

    Like the stars,

  8. وتجلَّى الطِّرْسُ منها

    بحِلى الدُّرِّ النظمِ

    And the Pleiades appeared from them,

    Adorned with a necklace of threaded pearls,

  9. صاغها فِكْرُ عَلِيٍّ

    صاغَها فِكْرُ عَلِيمِ

    Formed by the mind of a Sublime One,

    Formed by the mind of a Wise One,

  10. ببلاغَاتٍ بها جُرَّ

    خِطامُ ابْنِ الخَطيمِ

    With eloquences by which the reins,

    Of Ibn Al-Khatib were controlled,

  11. وتَمامٌ لم يَنَلْهُ

    حاجِبٌ بين تميمِ

    And a perfection which was not attained,

    By an eyebrow amidst Thamood,

  12. ومَعاني حِكَمٍ أَزْ

    رَتْ بلُقْمانَ الحيكمِ

    And wisdoms of a wise man,

    Who counseled Luqman the Sage,

  13. وكلامٌ صِرْتُ مذخُو

    طِبْتُهُ مِثْلَ الكليمِ

    And speech which I became,

    Accustomed to like a bosom friend,

  14. من خليلٍ وجليلٍ

    وحَمِيٍّ وحميمِ

    From a friend and glorious one,

    And a protector and intimate one,

  15. ي المُحَيَّا الزاهرِ الغُرَّ

    ة في الدهرِ البهيمِ

    O the happy, the flowering, the free one,

    In the ignorant mortal world,

  16. والأَيادي المُسْتَخِفَّا

    تِ بأَعباءِ الغيومِ

    And the outstretched hands,

    Bearing the burdens of clouds,

  17. دُونَهَ إِنْ حُقِّقَتْ أَو

    صافُ أَربابِ العلومِ

    Below it, if truth be told, or,

    Cleared are the minds of the learned,

  18. كلُّ عينٍ كلُّ لامٍ

    كل ياءٍ كلُّ مِيمِ

    Every eye, every lam,

    Every ya, every meem,

  19. سَلَّمَ اللُّه علاهُ

    من حلا لَيلِ السَّلِيمِ

    May Allah send peace upon its height,

    From theSolver of the night of darkness,

  20. ما أَمالَ الريحُ عِطْفَيْ

    غُصُن الريحِ القويمِ

    No breeze tilted,

    The branch of the straight breeze.
