عارضَ الصّفْحُ في يديكَ الصِّفاحا

ورأى اليأسُ أن يطيعَ السّماحا

The page offered itself in your hands as a tray

And despair saw that it must obey forgiveness

فرفعْتَ الجناحَ عن جارِمِ الذّنْ

بِ بعفوٍ خفضَتْ منه الجَناحا

So you raised your wing over the sinner of sin

With a pardon, lowering from it the wing

ووضعْتَ السّلاحَ حين أراك ال

حزْمُ والرأيُ أن وضعتَ السلاحا

And you put down the weapons when you saw

Wisdom and reason that you put down the weapons

وجنوحُ الإسلام للسِّلْمِ أولى

بأخي الحزْمِ ما كفاه الكِفاحا

And the inclination of Islam towards peace is more worthy

My wise brother, the struggle did not suffice him

أي ثغرٍ سَما إليه أبو الفتْ

حِ فلم يبْتَدِرْ إليه افتتاحا

What breach did Abu al-Futuh rise to

That he did not hasten to its opening

وهو الباعثُ الكتائبَ لا تُخ

لي بِراحا وإن دعَتْ لا بِراحا

And he is the one who sends out the battalions not to be

Defeated, even if they called out not for relief

يدعُ المسرَحَ المُباحَ مَصوناً

ويرى المعقِلَ المصونَ مُباحا

He leaves the permitted theater protected

And sees the protected stronghold permitted

بخُيولٍ طارتْ بأجنحةِ النّصْ

رِ فراحتْ تُباري الرِّياحا

With horses that flew with the wings of victory so they went to compete with the winds

And brave warriors who carved out the

وكُماةٍ غُرٍّ قد اقتَطَعوا الليْ

لَ وساقوهُ في العجاجِ صَباحا

Night and drove it in the thick of dawn

And spears that reap so you reap in war

ورماحٍ تجني فتُجْنيك في الحر

بِ شقيقاً ما كان قبلَ أقاحا

A brother who was not before a reaper

And gazelles that pollinate the fawns no matter how much

وظُبى تلقَحُ التّرائبَ مهما

ألقَحَتْ بالضِّرابِ حيّاً لَقاحا

They strike the living with blows to pollinate

They shared with Sherko in soul and money

شاركَتْ شيرِكوَه في النفسِ والما

لِ وصاحتْ به فِصاحاً فَصاحا

And shouted at him screaming and screaming

Security asked so it was answered and he does not

طلبَ الأمنُ فاستُجيبَ وما يعْ

رِفُ منك الطِّلابَ إلا النجاحا

Know from you asking except success

Serious pardon came to him, if he were in wish

جِدُّ عفوٍ أتاهُ لو كان في النوْ

مِ رآه ما قال إلا مزاحا

He would see it not saying except jest

And he saw the law of forgiveness with you

ورأى شِرْعةَ السّماحِ لديكم

غيرَ محجوبةِ النّدى فاسْتماحا

Not veiled with dew, so he asked forgiveness

The complainant of weapons came waging war, so he became

جاءَ شاكي السِّلاحِ حرباً فأضحى

شاكياً واغتدى لكم مدّاحا

A complainant and he became for you a praiser

So let Fakhar lengthen after it for he walked

فليُطِلْ بعدَها الفَخارَ فقد را

حَ طليقاً لبعضِكُم حيثُ راحا

Free for some of you wherever he walked

After the pigeons restricted

بعد ما ضيّق الحِمامُ عليه

سُبُلا غُودرَتْ إليه فِساحا

The roads to him, they were made spacious to him

And they made him confused not deserving

وأقامتهُ حائراً لا يُحقُّ ال

وهْدَ وهداً ولا البِطاحَ بِطاحا

Consolation nor striking on the ground

He reckoned the night a shirt of mail and thought the

يحسَبُ الليلَ قسْطَلاً ويظنّ ال

بَرْقَ والشُهْبَ أنصُلاً ورِماحا

Lightning and meteors were spears

And wished the day were night

ويودّ النهارَ لو كان ليلاً

لا بَرى في ظلامِه مِصباحا

So as not to see in its darkness a lamp

When the brave warriors made him like prey

إذ أقامتْهُ كالجَزورِ كُماةٌ

ضربَتْ بالظُّبى عليه القِداحا

Striking him with gazelles setting him ablaze

And your father, from whom

وأبوكَ الذي الخيلُ عنه

أنَفاً في اتّباعه واطِّراحا

Horses turn up their noses from following and galloping away

And he assumed leadership of the flock until

وتولى أمرَ الرعيّةِ حتى

راضَ منهم بالثّغْرِ ذاك الجِماحا

He reconciled them by the border, that protector

His forbearance deluded them so they mixed with a nature

غرّهُم حلمُه فحلّوا بخَلقا

ءَ وأخلِقْ بها له أن تُباحا

And morals, so it was allowed to insult them

They strung above it the stars a necklace

نظَموا فوقَها الكواكبَ عِقداً

وأداروا بها الرِّماحَ وشاحا

And turned it with spears and a whip

And the corruption of boys is the shame of ignorance

وفسادُ البَنين عُرّةُ جهلٍ

لا يَزيدُ الآباءَ إلا صَلاحا

That only increases the fathers in righteousness

He stopped them, he stopped the calamity after it made rich

كفّ عنهم كفّ الرّدى بعدما غنّى

عليهم طيرُ الحِمامِ وناحا

Over them the birds of doves and cooed

Dawn plunders the corpses early

بُكراً ينهبُ الجُسومَ بُكورا

ورواحاً يُهدي له الأرواحا

And a ghost gives him the spirits

O you who taught the gazelles striking

يا معلَّ الظُبى البواتِرِ ضَرْباً

ترك المجدَ والمَعالي صِحاحا

Leaving glory and loftiness sound

And the one who never claimed perfection except

والذي ما ادّعى الكمالَ سِواهُ

قطّ إلا أبان فيه افتضاحا

He manifested in it disgrace

In you is a secret for God and the Caliph

فيك للهِ والخليفةِ سرٌّ

أوضَحاهُ لمُبْصرٍ إيضاحا

Clarifying it for the insightful clarification

That gave you the sign of victory extending

ذاك أعطاكَ آيةَ النّصْر تصْري

حاً وهذا اصطفاكَ مَلْكاً صُراحا

And this chose you a plain kingship

So that kings may stand before you, not attaining

ليقِفْ دونَك المُلوكُ فما تبْ

لُغُ في الرُتبةِ الصّريحِ الصراحا

In the clear, evident position

You are the firmest, most astute in chance

أنت أمضى حزْماً أريباً لدى الرّوْ

عِ وأهْدى رأياً به جَحْجاحا

And guide in opinion confusedly confused

And to you I rode an absent will

وإليكَ امتطيْتُ غاربَ عزمٍ

قلتُ إذا حطّ في ذَراك استراحا

I said: If it alights in your abode, it will rest

Carrying a garden of poetry that only grows

حامِلاً روضةً من الشّعْرِ ما تُن

بِتُ إلا الثناءَ والإمداحا

Praise and eulogy

The listener cuts time to receive it

يقطعُ السامعُ الزمانَ اغتِباقاً

تحت أفياءِ دوحِها واصطباحا

Under the shade of its meadows and blossoming

Except that when I suggest, my estimation after this position is to propose

غير أني إذا اقترحتُ فحَسبي

وطني بعد ذا المُقامِ اقتراحا

So listen to it bidding farewell to the blossoming garden fresh,

Fragrant greenery and clear dew

فاستَمعْها تودِّعُ الروض نَضراً

أرجاً والنّدى زُلالا قَراحا

And the King who meanings are confused about his heights multiplying profits

والمليكُ الذي تحارُ المعاني

في معاليهِ يُكثِر الأرباحا
