The days pass by, O pillar of the state
You who guarantee my success
I complain, a slain man complaining
In the grip of stinginess, longing for a sword
It's unfair that you seem so near
Yet I'm displaced, pulled far and wide
Had I been left to my own devices
I'd have come to you night and day
A bird in flight needs its wings
To battle the skies, there's no other way
It's said a wounded man won't fear
The blow that comes his way
My cheeks are bruised from stolen kisses
My hands as light as a feather in the wind
Exiled from you until I found
No comfort but in apples
And when you offer that, it's as though
You offer rest, and salted cheeks
How many cheeks are never veiled
How many wines undrunk for fear...
