O son of Adlan, O most despicable of men

    You deserve only shoe laces

You have the face of a donkey, but on it

A beard hung like some of the ornaments

Since we counted you among the witnesses, we knew

That some of the witnesses are only good for shoe laces

Your bald head started growing fur, so it found

Its skin as hard as iron

What have you heard, O most stupid of peo-

ple, that female mules gave birth?

You wrongly testify out of ignorance

A line mixed up in its shapes

If you know satire and testimony, then read

Some of what has come in words

And we saw travelers from the West

Who brought us news of an unsolvable affliction

They told us you have a daughter

Who is shared by three men

Sharing women is like sharing God-

    You have lost, gone astray

And the slaves with you said

Things about you that warrant a slap

The astrologers saw you and said

“That head, its star is in Sagittarius”

And the mustache over your mouth

Is green like wheatgrass under the rocks

And listen, if you want, listen to my advice

And listen, if you want, to what I say

You have a mouth like wheatgrass, and this is

Above its teeth like the wheatgrass under rocks

And a twisted tongue that does not know

If it came to us talking nonsense or reasonably

    So straighten it out until

It goes back after its bending to moderation

Your flowing beard tempts me now

And it tempts the hearts of men

And wear linen clothes and recite

So you can be virtuous and frequently discuss

And when the seam of your pocket comes undone tie

A knot that won’t loosen for the spinners

    And rely on these issues

For in them is reward for deeds

We have not satirized you out of spite, O Raqi

But built up to solve perplexities

And we stopped at little until

You buy a turban cloth from the spinners

    This poem falls short so

It prevented us from expansive expression

So praise God however you were

This is required in all states
