أتمنحُنا أوطانهُنّ الكواكبُ

وتصدُقُنا الأيامُ وهْيَ كواذِبُ

Do you grant us countries as planets

And do days believe us while they are liars

إذا أنتَ سلّمتَ الزمانَ ضراعةً

وأهليه حيناً فاختلِقْ من يُحاربُ

If you surrender time to begging

And its people for a while, then fabricate one who fights

فإنْ أنت أغضيتَ الجفونَ على القذى

وقادَتْكَ أطماعُ المُنى والمطالبُ

If you close your eyelids to specks

And your ambitions and wants lead you

ففي أيّ بُرْدى فخرِها أنت رافِلٌ

وفي أي عيشٍ بعدَها أنت راغبُ

Then in which cold are you bundled up

And after it in which life are you desirous

يذودُ حمى الأعراضِ عن كلِّ موقفِ

سَواءٌ به أُسْدُ الشّرى والثّعالبُ

It defends the honor of every situation

Equal to it the lions of evil and foxes
