فهمتُ على البارقِ المُمْطرِ

حديثاً ببالك لم يخطُرِ

I understood on the rainy lightning

A talk that didn't cross your mind

تقولُ سهرتُ فأجْرِ الدموعَ

وإلا فإنك لم تسهرِ

You say you stayed up shedding tears

Or else you didn't stay up

وأنت ترى رعدَه صاهلاً

فيطمع في طرفِه الأشقَرِ

And you see its thunder rumbling

So the blond wink is tempted

تبسّم إذ قال ألمِمْ بهمْ

وقطّبَ إذ قال عنهم طُرِ

He smiled when he said "join them"

And frowned when he said "leave them"

رمى بالمشقَّر جُلّ الغَمامِ

وقد جلّ عن متنهِ الأشقرِ

He aimed the galaxy at the thick clouds

After the blond cleared from its body

وأحسنَ بالرفعِ رفعَ الحديثِ

وإظهارَهُ للجوى المُضْمَرِ

And did well raising the talk

And revealing the hidden meanings

فماذا تقولُ وعرْفُ الرياضِ

على جمرهِ فاحَ كالعَنْبرِ

So what do you say and the meadow's nectar

On its embers spread like amber

تميسُ الغصونُ بأثمارِها

ولا مثل ذا الغُصُنِ المُثْمرِ

The branches flirt with their fruits

And none like this fruitful branch

فيا عبلةَ الساقِ لا أشتكي

إليكِ سوى وجْدي العنتري

So hello to an end to prohibitions

That says: how short you made the shortest

وأزهرَ مُنسبُ حبّي له

يؤكده أنّني الأزهري

I knew when it rose like a planet

After its clear dawn

أعان الغزالةَ فيه الغزالُ

فمن ناظرينَ ومن منظَرِ

And my betraying curls said

Which of the friends didn't betray

وجدّد لي ثغرُهُ خبرةً

وقد طالَ عهدي بالجوهَرِ

I swore by the sandy plains of Mecca and Mash'ar

If time makes me slip in an arena

وحصّنتُ عنه دَراءَ السنينَ

فثارَ عليّ من الأشهرِ

I was cheated by its redness with my redness

When the oath of passion set me free

وكنتُ صبوتُ زمانَ الصِبا

بحيث الغدائرُ لم تغْدُرِ

There and then from the knot of Khunthur

And not every two actions were done

وكم راقَ طرفي من رائعٍ

يقول وقد غرّني غَرري

Equally, equally to the source

And one can accompany another without him

فأصبح من رسمِه واسمِه

على أثرِ قطُّ لم يُؤثَرِ

Take that from the insight of the one eyed

And in the tower, two planets are paired

وقد كنت أجني ثمارَ الوصالِ

بغُصْنِ شبيبتي الأخضرِ

And Saturn is nothing like Jupiter

When the most noble desired is mentioned

فأما وقد عطِشتْ لُمّتي

وسالَ فلم يروِها مِحجَري

Leave everyone else, don't mention

For resemblance in appearance

فأهلاً بناهيةٍ للنُهى

تقول وما أقصرَتْ أقصِرِ

Is no proof of resemblance in essence

And how many tell me of glories

علمتُ وقد طلعَتْ كوكباً

بما بعد من صُبحهِ المسفرِ

If you don't glorify and aren't glorified

If the hand of trial tests him

وقالت غدائري الغادرا

تُ أيُّ الأخلاءِ لم يَغدُرِ

He refers the impossible to the element

Upon you the branches of praise bent

حلفتُ بها مشعرات الذرى

ببطحاءِ مكةَ فالمَشْعرِ

So I picked it from you in Kauthar

Both your hands are the two goals

لئن لزّنى الدهرُ في حلبةٍ

غريتُ بأحمرِها أحمري

Against the slanderer or the needy

And whenever you sit to judge

لما أطلقتني يمينُ الغلاءِ

هنالك من عقدةِ الخُنصُرِ

You heal the sick and protect the innocent

Serene, before whom mountains bow

ولا كل فعلينِ قد صُرِّفا

سواءً سواءً على المصْدرِ

And the flutter of bats falls silent

And the words of an eloquent sermon

وقد يصحَبُ المرءُ من دونه

وخُذْ ذاك عن عينَيْ الأعورِ

Flow to their pearls from the pulpit

And a knowledge stripped of its words

وفي البرجِ يقترنُ الكوكبانِ

وما زحلٌ ثمّ كالمُشْتري

A sword at the neck of the denier

And safety in whose shade the gazelle sees

إذا ذُكِر الأشرفُ المرتجى

فدعْ من سواهُ ولا تذكُرِ

And its broom the thickets of palaces

With your mention our sides sway

فليس التشابهُ في منظرٍ

دليلَ التشابهِ في مخْبرِ

From the intoxication of musk

And with your name our swords multiply

وكم من يقولُ ليَ المأثرا

تُ إن لم تؤثّر ولم تُؤثِرِ

So we tell of my fortunate arrow

You walked the path of the majority

فإن عصرتهُ يدُ الامتحانِ

أحال محالاً على العنصرِ

To Mudar, origin of pride

And your right hand said "compose for me"

عليك تثنّت غصونُ الثناء

فجنّتُه منك في كوثر

So I said "and scatter in the composers"

And you actualized in the name of perfect Tameem

وكلتا يديك هما الغايتان

على المُفتري أو على المُقْترِ

So who will report of it through it

And a riddle in you I puzzled over

ومهما جلستَ لفصلِ القضاءِ

شفيتَ السقيم وصنتَ البَري

And had it not been in you, it wouldn't be puzzled over

When beauty is ancestral nobility

وقارٌ تخفّ له الراسياتُ

وتسكنُ خافقةُ الصرصرِ

It makes us talk of Ja'far

And I have a need in the conscience of highness

وفصلُ خطابٍ لوَتْ جيدَها

الى درِّه لُبّةُ المنبر

And you're the keeper of its hiddenness

I stutter about it and I'm tearful

ومعرفةٌ جُردَتْ لفظَها

حساماً على عُنُقِ المُنْكِرِ

Modesty says "express it"

And how many tears stubbed their noses

وأمناً يرى الظبيُ في ظلّه

ومكنِسُه غابة القسورِ

The oath of majesty didn't deny

I called you, so attend, for not everyone

تميسُ بذكرِك أعطافُنا

فتهتزّ عن نشوةِ المُسْكِرِ

If absent, is absent like the attended

And God gathered people in you

ويكثرُ باسمِك أقسامُنا

فنُخبِرُ عن سَهميَ المُيْسِرِ

And that's nothing astonishing for Him

And how much with poetry he shook from sleep

جريتَ على منهجِ الأغلبينَ

الى مضرِ مبعثِ المَفخَرِ

One who when shaken with the sword wouldn't feel

And I must fulfill the right of praise

وقالت يمينُك فيّ انظموا

فقلتُ وفي الناظمينَ انثري

With a thought that excelled and didn't think

For its purposes are sweet fruits

وحققتَ في اسم تميمَ التمامِ

فمن يَرْو عنها بها يُخبرِ

And its words juicy fruits

He says: when a singer came to me

وأحجيةٌ فيك حبّرتُها

ولو لم يكنْ فيك لم تُحبَرِ

A beloved came to me with Buhturi

إذا الحسَنُ الندب سنّ الندى

جعلنا نحدّثُ عن جعفرِ

ولي حاجةٌ في ضميرِ العُلا

وأنت أبو سرّها المُضْمَرِ

ألجْلِجُ عنها ولي عبرةٌ

يقول الحياءُ لها عبّري

وكم عبرةٍ جدَعَتْ أنفَها

يمينُ الجلالِ فلم ينكِرِ

دعوتُك فاحضَرْ فليس الجميعُ

إذا غِبْتَ لا غبتَ كالحُضَّرِ

وقد جمع الله فيك الأنام

وليس عليه بمُسْتَنكَرِ

وكم هزّ بالشعرِ من نائمٍ

إذا هُزَّ بالسيفِ لم يشعُرِ

ولي أن أوفّي حقّ الثناءِ

بفكرٍ أجادَ ولم يفْكُرِ

فأغراضُه عذبةُ المجتنى

وألفاظُهُ رطبةُ المكسِرِ

يقول إذا ما أتى مُنشِداً
