I stand between conversations and eyes,
Paused at a wish and desires.
Spare me the blame in reproaches, and know
That blame may sometimes allure me.
What is it to you if I poured my tears
And prolonged my wailing in the ruins of home?
I still hid love until it raged in me
And the pain of parting exposed it through my eyes.
Oh you who rebuke me, go easy on my heart, for
I do not satisfy you with my actions, nor do you satisfy me.
The hands of love ensnared it when they laid traps for it
With the glances of the gazelles' eyes.
Lower yourself to me, for I do not see you deterring me
With blame for my passion, nor dissuading me.
How can I find peace when the quarters of Hamda
No longer have a side that whispers to me?
And upon the camel litters are maidens whose languorous eyelids
Do not heal those made sick by my murderous glance.
Heifa is under her veil and clothes -
I want from her whatever rose and narcissus I wish.
She traveled away, revealing a full moon rising
For you during nights of thick black hair.
She wept leaving in the valley of her cheeks
Traces of pearls from her hidden tears.
