عني فلم يبقَ امرؤٌ حاضرٌ

إلا اشتهى لو سَرِبَ المَرْقَدا

My eyes, no man remains in their presence,

But for he wishes, were he struck down, to sleep.

لا طرباً منه ولا خِفّةً

لكن لكي يسكرَ أو يرْقُدا

Not from joy in them, or from their airiness,

But only so he may get drunk or rest.
