1. لهنّ ربوعٌ بالعقيقِ دواثرُ

    خلتْ وقلوبُ العاشقين عوامرُ

    They have meadows in al-Aqeeq left behind,

    While the hearts of lovers are ruins.

  2. منازلُ لا عهدُ الشبابِ يعودُ لي

    بهنّ ولا بعدَ الفراقِ الجاذرُ

    Abodes where the days of youth shall not return to me,

    Nor after separation, however harsh.

  3. لقد فقدَتْ عيني المنامَ لفقدِهم

    فهل أنا يوماً للأحبّة ناظرُ

    My eyes have lost sleep longing for them,

    Shall I ever see my beloved again?

  4. أبيتُ أراعي النجم حتى كأنني

    رقيبٌ عليه أو جليسٌ مسامرُ

    I stayed up watching the stars as if

    I were their guard or chatting companion.

  5. وفي الكِلّةِ الورديّةِ اللونِ ساحرٌ

    وما آفةُ العشّاقِ إلا السواحرُ

    And in the pink rose petals, a sorcerer,

    And the bane of lovers is none but sorcerers.

  6. نَفورٌ يصيدُ القلبَ وقت نفارِه

    فوا عجبا من صائدٍ وهْو نافرُ

    An aloofness that ensnares the heart when it's aloof,

    How strange is the hunter yet itself aloof!

  7. له منظرٌ لم تبلُغِ العينُ وصفَه

    جمالاً غدَتْ وَقْفاً عليه المناظرُ

    A vision of beauty beyond any description,

    Its perfection has made all other views obsolete.

  8. لقد كسّرَتْ أُسْدَ العرين لحاظُه

    كذا كل مكسور اللواحظِ كاسرُ

    His piercing glance did break the lions in their dens,

    Thus all the broken-hearted are heart-breakers.

  9. جفا وحَمى عينيّ طيفَ خيالِه

    وقد كان طيفٌ في الكرى منه زائر

    He shunned me, and the specter of him haunts my eyes,

    Though it was a specter that sometimes visited my abode.

  10. لقد طال ليلي بعد فُرقتِه أما

    لليل فراقِ الحَبِّ يا قومُ آخرُ

    My night grew long after his abandonment,

    Oh people, does the night of love's separation have an end?

  11. الى ضمّرٍ راحت بنا أريحيّةٌ

    يُبيدُ الفيافي سيرُها المُتواتِرُ

    We rode on an easy ride to Dhummar,

    Crossing the sands in steady pace.

  12. شققتُ بها ثوبَ الظلامِ مخاطراً

    ولن يبلُغَ الحاجات إلا المخاطرُ

    I tore through the robe of darkness adventurously,

    For goals are not met except through adventure.

  13. وأصبحتُ أحدوها على عجلٍ الى

    أجلِّ امرئٍ تُحدى إليه الضوامِرُ

    I hastened it at dawn urgently,

    To the noble one whom the brave hasten to.

  14. الى الحافظ الحبر الإمام الذي غدا

    يُراوحُنا إنعامه ويُباكر

    To the master, the scholar, the imam who

    Now favors us with his grace and is early to rise.

  15. الى ذي سماحٍ لو يعدَّدُ فضله

    الى أن يكون الرّمْلُ ممّن يكاثِرُ

    The one of great generosity, if his merits are counted,

    They multiply, more than the sands can vie.

  16. تقيٌّ نقيٌّ طاهرُ الذيل أروعٌ

    على وجهه نورُ الديانة ظاهرُ

    Pious, pure, of honorable manner,

    The light of faith apparent on his face.

  17. الى السوءِ والفحشاءِ غيرُ مبادرٍ

    ولكن الى نيلِ الثوابِ مُبادرُ

    Does not hasten to evil and lewdness,

    But hastens only to gain divine reward.

  18. أوائلُ هذا البيت تُعرَفُ بالتقى

    وبالدين من دون الورى والأواخرُ

    The first part of this abode is known for piety,

    And for faith, above all homes, the latter part.

  19. يجودُ ويبدي للعُفاةِ تبسُّماً

    كذا البرقُ يأتي والسحابُ المواطرُ

    He smiles at the destitute generously,

    As lightning comes with pouring clouds.

  20. هو البحر يعطي للذي يستميحُه

    جواهرَ تأتي إثرهنّ جواهرُ

    He is the sea who gives to those who appeal to him

    Jewels that bring about more jewels.

  21. هو الصبحُ إلا أن ذاك تُزيلُه الد

    ياجي وهذا في دُجى الليل زاهرُ

    He is the dawn, except that it is banished by darkness,

    While he shines even in the gloom of night.

  22. هو السيف لكن فيه من كل وجهةٍ

    لأهل الردى حدّ مدى الدهر باترُ

    He is a sword, but from every side in him

    There is for the wicked, a cutting edge to repress.

  23. لقد أصبحتْ آراؤه وكأنها

    نجومٌ لدى الخطبِ البهيم زواهرُ

    His opinions have become like stars floating

    Among the speeches of the ignorant, shining bright.

  24. لقد عُذْتُ من هذا الزمان وشرّه

    بمن هو ناهٍ فيه نهياً وآمرُ

    I have been protected from the evils of this age

    By one who prohibits and commands in it virtuously.

  25. بأروعَ أما مجدُه فهو عنده

    مقيمٌ وأما مالُه فمسافرُ

    His glory, though with him it resides,

    His wealth, though, travels about.

  26. مبيدَ العِدى بحرَ النّدى علَمَ الهدى

    أكفُّك تهمي أم هوامَ هوامِرُ

    He destroys enemies with a sea of friendship, taught guidance,

    Do you blame me, or is it love's confused commands?

  27. أتى العامُ كي نحظى بقُربك ضاحكاً

    وطائرُهُ الميمونُ بالسعدِ طائرُ

    The year has come that we share your company, laughing,

    Its auspicious birds tweeting good fortunes.

  28. فعِشْ مثلَه ألفاً عزيزاً مكرماً

    وأعداؤكَ السّودُ الوجوهِ صواغرُ

    So live like him, honored and esteemed,

    While your frowning enemies' faces darken.
