Do hearts find solace in eyes,

And have power over their secrets?

Alas! No coquette's lips have smiled

Except with hearts torn, shredded, gashed.

Do not loose your glances' arrows relentlessly,

For death's course is to snatch away life.

Of wonders: my cheek is withered

While tears rain on it in torrents.

O you who pierce my liver with your eyelids' arrows,

Be gentle, for it is unarmed.

The morning breeze beautified the lovely one

Whose wandering knows no finery or delight.

In her intoxicating eyes is magic from Babylon,

    Bewitchment breathing into hearts penetrated.

Her lids shed water generously flowing,

And steeled the heart they left behind.
