Oh Lord, grant us a propitious day

To erase the sins of the corrupting age

I turned the fiery wine that day

Frightening the boss, inflaming his hand

And I blinded the eyes of the spies

Making them envy's eyes, in truth

I said, "Serve me the rosy cup"

As the cheek of emerald reddened with shame

So he stood up when dawn's edge

Began to blacken with the dark of night

And the Nile beneath the clothes of night

Had wrappings of silver and sable

As if the beams on its surface

Were an Indian sword with polished blade

And if its ripples in the breeze

Resembled cooled broth in a silver bowl
