1. يا ذا الذي أنطقَهُ مالُه

    وكان لولاهُ حليفَ السكوتْ

    O you whom wealth made eloquent

    And without it, you'd be bound to silence

  2. ما لكَ من مالكَ إلا الذي

    تسُدّ منه خلّة أو تَقوتْ

    You own nothing except what

    Fills a gap or gets you food

  3. سيّانِ من أصبحَ في جوسقٍ

    أو كان في بيتٍ من العنكبوتْ

    It's all the same if one wakes up penniless

    Or in a spider web ridden house

  4. ما الفقرُ يُدْني لامرئٍ موتَه

    ولا الغِنى يمنَعُهُ أن يموتْ

    Poverty won't bring death any closer

    Nor will wealth prevent it from coming
